Infinity nutcase.
Does anyone know if the dust cover on the Technics SL-1200 MK2 sits flat around the entire base of the table ?

It has come to light recently that many of the original 1200 dustcovers being sold these days are warped. Try adjusting the hinges so that it sits flat at the front.

Ugh. I just tried out a NOS 1200 dustcover today only to discover it's warped. Adjusting the hinges makes it a little better, but damn, what a disappointment for a brand new part! :tears:

I'm guessing parts are running out and they are selling the factory rejects that where never sold because they where warped.

Japanese people are generally too conscientious to pull a stunt like that. (I married a Japanese lady and have been over there many times, so I have a pretty good understanding of their culture.)

It's also just not 'good business.' Panasonic isn't so hard up for cash that they have to sell off defective dustcovers, and factory rejects are almost certainly destroyed immediately to conserve space in the factory.

More likely they became warped through sitting in hot warehouses for a long time.

Mine (new from KABUSA) is warped - sits about 5mm high on one front corner. Decided it's not worth the hassle to fix, so live with it.

If I take the hinges off, mine (new) sits absolutely perfectly flat all around. If I put it in the hinges it sits about 3mm high at the front right. Have tweaked, adjust, pulled, prodded etc etc in every way I can think to make the damn thing sit level in the hinges. May have another go at it tonight or this weekend, because it was annoying me last night!

If it sits perfectly flat with the hinges removed but not with the hinges installed, the problem may be that the holes for the hinges are off. One way to check would be to measure from the holes to the bottom edge of the dustcover. If one set of holes is higher/lower than the other then that's your problem.
