I came across a 24"x28" slab of almost 3/4" thick marble for free would this be a good base for DIY turntable?

It would be a good pedestal for setting the TT on if the TT has some sort of isolation from vibration.

If I use the marble as a platform what would be the best choice of wood for the base hardwood or softwood.I can get a chunk of redwood thats about 2 1/2" Thick x:scratch2: about 24" square that would very pretty sanded and stained.
