Small Tear in Magnepan 1.7i

Hello all,
I recently purchased a pair of Magnepan 1.7i speakers. They sound fantastic and so far I am happy with my purchase. However, I discovered what appears to be two sections of the foil/wire slightly lifted and rotated with small tears in the mylar. The tears do not seem to change the sonic characteristics of that area of the panel.

Does this require an immediate fix and will continued use of the panel cause further tearing?

I would fix that ASAP. Mylar is pretty durable, but fixing small tears is way easier than fixing a big tear!
 
Probably worth lifting the sock and taking a good look. Can be repaired with good Scotch tape. I have used their packing tape as it is thicker.

Once you are inside you will see exactly what is going on. Maybe you can but it doesn't show in the pictures well enough to provide a game plan on the repair.
 
alright I will probably store them until I have the time to take them apart to prevent further damage. I was planning on replacing the socks and trim anyways.
 
I believe even Magnepan recommends a Scotch tape repair on small tears. Worth the small cost, and the effort of pulling lots of staples...! :eek:
