Snell info

Is this true?

If so, then what does that mean for the McIntosh speaker division? I wouldn't think that it would change anything in the amplifier or electronics divisions.

This is a lateral move by D&M holdings which also owns Marantz. Snell was paired with Marantz, so now Mac will be. As for Mac speakers I guess we'll have to wait and see, but I doubt it will have much effect since they are seperate divisions. More than likely you will see Snell paired with Mac at the dealers more often, also the same at shows.

Maybe Ron can clue us in further I'm just speculating...

About two hours ago I hauled my beloved Snell EIVs down from the office to pair up with a recently refurbished MC2505 and C30. I've owned the Snells since college - my first major purchase. I got them slightly discounted when the EVs first came out. They are fantastic speakers and sound great (so far) on the McIntosh gear.

I've been pairing McIntosh with Snell for 20+ years! :D

McIntosh buys some internal cabinet and trim pieces from Snell as they have extensive precision woodworking facilities. As far as building any of the McIntosh speakers, no.

Production of Snell products will move to Binghamton and all business operations will share the same front office. This will yield more efficiencies and sharing between the two product lines.

Thanks,
Ron-C

Snell make an attractive, flexible, great sounding line of speakers. Different than McIntosh speakers but certainly a very legitimate product. I think the Snell line will blossom in Binghamton.

Sounds like a good match, esp. since they are doing some of your cab and trim work. I had the good fortune to hear some newer Snells at the AK Fest last year. They make some fine sounding speakers.

Both make fantastic products, and the consolidation into a single american-based facility is not a bad idea. Especially now being able to consolidate two marketing and sales forces into one...

Personally I have always thought that Snell speakers sounded their best on McIntosh electronics.

When I first bought my Snell C's new, back in '82 or '83(?), I had them paired up with a very nice Yamaha A-1060 integrated amp and I thought they sounded very, very good. But, when I upgraded to my first McIntosh gear, a C-28 preamp and a 2300 amp, both purchased used, I found out that the Yamaha and Snell C's weren't the best combination. Apparently the Yamaha was having difficulty driving the 4 ohm Snells and was compressing the music signal. When I pulled the Yamaha out of my system and substituted the C-28/2300 combination in its place, the difference was jaw dropping! Both my wife and I were stunned! We stayed up very late that night listening to lots and lots of our favorite music and every piece of music we listened to gave us goose bumps. Since that time my Snells have always been driven by McIntosh electronics.
