Some Background on the Jubilee

Active. Started with the EV-DX38. Ended up with two of them so I could add in a sub. Wanted to simplify so went with a single Xilica that would handle 4-in, 8-out.

Early on, Roy made a comment while shaking his head with a bit of disbelief....

Went on to say that the first year he auditioned them for the Klipsch folks, he had an active on them. He heard mumbling from the crowd about their disdain on buying an active speaker...all wanted passive. So, the following year (when I was there), he reconfigured them with a passive. I don't recall the number, but the first few pair he sold.....all went active. So he was scratching his head trying to figure out the fickle crowd.
 
Audio Classics has ordered their first pair of Jubilees. Steve says he hasn't figured out where is going to put them. I don't know if they will be regular production units or part of the 75th anniversary collection. Love to hear them though. Especially along side the big JBL DD67000. Lets see if a $83,000 pair of JBL's can beat a pair of $35,000 Klipsch. I doubt it. And the Klipsch are 14 or 15 db more efficient . Which means a Little MA 6200 with a MC 754 for the Klipsch would out perform the JBL's using a MA 12000. Like Paul was to have said all the world needs is a great 20 watt amp. But in this case you would need two as the Jubilees are to be bi-amped. Now would be the time for Mac to make a 1/3 power MC 901. Don't know what they would call it. MC 311? 100 watts for the highs and 200 watts for the lows. I guess a MC 901 would be perfect for the JBL's.

That is way too much pressure! LOL. They sounded big, huge actually. That is the main impression I was left with. They were in a very large room too, and the fill of sound didn't suffer at any frequency. They sounded very balanced from top to bottom, and even though they had the speakers toed in, they sounded the same pretty much everywhere in the room. I didn't hear anything I would consider negative, but they were playing some obscure stuff that I didn't recognize both times I was in the room.

My only other Heritage listening was to a set of Forte II's running off a vintage Marantz receiver at (Detroit Record Club in Royal Oak Michigan). I thought that setup was a little light in the midrange compared to the Jubilees, which maybe I would attribute to the Marantz "Sound"? Sounded good though.

Thanks for the recon, Geoff. No pressure. Too bad the music was obscure. I’d rather hear something unappealing but run-of-the-mill-audiophile-familiar and, therefore, revealing than obscure. I’m looking forward to auditioning a pair at Audio Classics this summer.
 
I'll put it this way with all due respect. The version I have makes all the others sound more like toy speakers. I say this having owned khorns and having bought my lascalas that I still have, in 1979.

The new version should sound similar on top but have more meat on the bottom.
 
My problem is I need a bigger house. My living room is 10x20 and the Cornwalls barely fit in there. I'd love to have a system where they get put in the back channels for these monsters here, but I have no idea what the ideal room size is.
 
How come no one is talking about the Jubilee lately? I'm sure some of have been sold. Audio Classics has two Pair on order now. I want to hear a pair some day.
 
I,m only aware of one pair in a residence. Might be others but if so, as best i can tell, they are staying quiet
 
Just spoke to Ryan at Audio Classics today. They’re still waiting for a demonstration pair. Broken links in the supply chain…
 
Well I just checked Audio Classics Webcams and I see their first pair of Jubilees have just Arrived. Maybe someone young that lives in the area could help Derick set them up and move everything else around and be the first to hear them.
 
Great timing, twiiii, I’m actually doing business right now in Syracuse. Called Ryan when I saw your post. He’s not sure when they’ll get them fired up. They just arrived and are daunting. He said give them until next week. Then I said I called only because I’m in the neighborhood for a couple days. He said call late tomorrow. Maybe they’ll be active by Thursday.
 
They have changed their minds and are going to move them to the room where the XRT 20/or 22 are located right now. Steve said the original packing slip copy Klipsch sent said they were only shipping one pair but when they opened the truck both pair we there. I told Steve he ought to take one pair home. He just chuckled. He now has one pair to show and one to go. So let us know if you get to hear them. They do have to be bi-amped, so wonder what amps he will use? Maybe has a pair of MC 275's that matched laying around. I would want to try MC 225's first or maybe that Japanese brand he sells that makes tube stuff. I would want analog all the way. Might be fun to try class A Accuphase he sells, too.

I had a busy day to day seeing a doctor etc, but I sure got a suprise when I got home from Audio Classics. Hope you guys enjoy.IMG_2229.jpg
