Hi Guys!

My latest musical obsession has become Bossa Nova-along with my latest linguistic obsession, Portuguese, as well as my geographical obsession, Brazil!

Yes, ladies and gentleman, I AM an Aspie. :D:D:D:D:D:D

I learn as much as possible about the country, language, and sometimes music (if applicable), and then gain a new obsession of the same type in a few months. But still enjoy the info and music!

So-enough about my Linguistic, Geographical, and Musical obsessions:

What's some great Bossa Nova? Preferably with vocals in Português!

I only have:

Getz/Gilberto
Blue Bossa by Ana Caram (I will check out the rest of her stuff)
Jazz Samba

Thanks guys!

Ben :)

I'm vaguely familiar with the genre and I absolutely love Sergio Mendes, "The Swinger from Rio" (1966)

If you have a chance to get to NYC you must go to Tropicalia in Furs. An amazing record store devoted entirely to the musical underground of Brazil! Here is a comp worth checking out:

Love that voice and recording quality!!!

A few years ago I got into Brazilian music. I've enjoyed exploring all types here's a few suggestions.

I stumbled on upon this DJ from the BBC several years ago and I've been downloading his free podcasts from iTunes ever since. He does all kinds of music and is very passionate about. He did this 6 part series called "Gilles Peterson in Brasil". each podcast is about 30 to 40 minutes of interesting regional music. It's very cool!!! check out the one "Rio Baile Funk"

If you like David Bowie, and who doesn't, check out the "The Life Aquatic: Studio Sessions, Seu Jorge. Great album

Check out Cesária Évora - Cafe Atlantico which I had on earlier today before I saw this thread. Not Bossa Nova explicitly but it's in the the right language.

Also try some Lenine. A bit more modern sounding but definitely Brazilian.

And how about Airto?

One of my favorite instrumental albums is:

Jack Jezzro
Brazilian Nights

I had always thought he was a guitarist from Brazil till I Googled him and found he is from West Virginia and studied at the Kodak Music School in Rochester NY. Amzing guitarists and this I believe is his best effort to date  :music:
