Someone Has to Speak Up....

Firefox 115 is coming up on 3 years old. May I suggest upgrading to the recent version (152.x.x)? It might be the solution to your issues.
They do not understand keeping things current to play nicely with current forum software in use. I have come this conclusion because its only been mentioned over and over.

I would like to send you a PM, but your profile does not allow it?

The beauty of using Linux and the Vivaldi browser. The browser just gets updated automatically along with the other updates. Well, I have to actually do the updates but Fedora lets me now when they are available...

As I (and others) have mentioned in other threads, Firefox is not updated for those of us on older hardware (and operating systems) in the same way it is for those of us running current hardware/OSes, but it IS still updated. My 2017 MacBook Air is running Mac OS X 10.14.6 for various reasons, and the version of Firefox it runs is listed as 115.37.0esr (Extended Support Release), as detailed here, which Firefox says *is* up-to-date. It works with just about every website I try it with (including ones which the obsolete version of Safari (14.1.2) my computer runs doesn't behave properly with), but not AK for some reason. :dunno:

Then the hardware needs to be updated.
To the best of my knowledge, it shouldn't need to be. As I (and others) keep saying, these ESR browsers are updated as the non-ESR versions are, and should be supported in the same way. For unknown reasons, AK's server has something against them, and at least some other browsers others are using.

And with on going discussion and inquires most are trying to use out dated stuff.

Zero issues with Chrome, Edge and Safari. All up to date on newer hardware.

As I said above, I'm able to access AK just fine using Safari 14.1.2, whose "About Safari" window bears a copyright date of 2021, which I suspect is when Apple last updated it. I'm typing this very message using that browser, in fact. I'm fairly certain that whatever is affecting Firefox 115.37esr (and other browsers which are experiencing the "Forbidden" error) is almost certainly a glitch in AK's server, and likely not having anything to do with how outdated a browser is.

I think the dust has settled around here. And if you look at the number of people online, the guest count is in the 100's, not the thousands it was a while ago. Kudos to the staff for keeping things running. :D
Also, I noticed for multiple months, that the new post page count has been alarmingly & consistently lower than I`ve ever noticed since joining 10 yrs. ago at the end of this month.
7~10 compared to the previous 17~20 paged on the average !

Just a concerning observation, being I check new posts every morning, when I engage A/K every day !

Maybe the common AI powered internet searches for the desired information is extracting and providing the desired information results for the person searching without them being directly referenced linked to A/K`s, etc. site like in the past.

Just a thought that ocured to me.

I seem to be lucky here. Occasionally, some issues will rear their head. If so, I take a walk, or go outside and piddle.

The mods do what they can. The site is still handled by a small collection of enthusiasts.

Let's all work together.

That's pretty much my experience as well.

There's been a small handful of times when there appeared to be some problems but they never lasted long at all. I certainly have not had anything that would make me consider going elsewhere.

And for what its worth...this is the only website that I have ever contributed to. Ever. The reason being that it is the only one that I felt deserved it.

Hello My Friend,

A slight clarification here;

We moderators do not handle software issues, that duty belongs to the administrators / webmaster, who do a great job considering the challenging environment that modern software presents. We moderators are around to (hopefully ;)) keep the peace and keep things neat & tidy regarding things like making sure threads are in the right subforum and sometimes merging duplicate threads to keep similar info all in one handy to find place. We zap spammers & scammers too, and thankfully that is the greatest majority of the discipline we are involved in. We occasionally remove an off tone/topic post here & there but again thankfully the greatest majority of our fellow members are well behaved and we totally understand that the occasional oops happens, which we take no offence to provided it doesn't become an ongoing pattern.

I just want everyone to know that I do understand the frustration when software issues interfere with your enjoyment of AK and I am sympathetic having experienced such issues myself.

Hmmm....I've been a member here since 2003, and in all that time, I think I can count the times I've had trouble accessing the site on one hand. I've pretty much always used Firefox.

The last time I had trouble was only a few days ago but I don't think it was a AK problem so much as it was a Cloudflare problem.
It seemed to be stuck in a loop of verifying over and over. But I had the very same issue on the same day with a different website - a local weather website- and both were fine the next day.

I may get lots of crap for this….but someone has to say it.

This site has been a great place to find information, meet others of the same audio geekdom, and even purchase some great stuff. There are people who are since day one and some who joined yesterday. It has been a site that has earned its place among the best audio sites ever to hit the web.

Not any more. Those who are in charge of the site have made a decision that has turned this place into a a web sh&t show. Many of the long time members are having issues that are turning them away from the site, and no one seems to give a damn. I get it, those of you who have some sort of “magic” keyboard are not having a problem. That doesn’t matter much to those who are.

There has to be a point in time where those who made the decision to “change” how this site operates change course. The lengthy time that AK has been having issues must be some sort of sign that this was not a great choice. There has to be a reason why the decision was made to go down this road, and maybe we will know some day. But as of now, it was a bad choice for many who utilize the site.

I will tell you that a large group of people I know from this site are on the verge of washing their hands of it all. Many of us have contributed, monetarily or intellectually, to this place for a long time. Would rather not see it go the way of many other sites that imploded. I like this place, A LOT. I have made “friends” here that I would have never “met” any other way. It is a shame that it might go away.
Can you give some specific examples of problems with this site? What has gone wrong? It seems to work well for me.

I'm still using a Win7 laptop (on a limited basis now) that's gotta be close to 20 years old. I too use firefox & have had problems with a few websites now because firefox is done updating the browser for win7. I think chrome is the same way. Firefox on my win11 unit seems good.
