Sometimes being a nice guy is a drag

There are so many people trying to screw each other out there already. If doing the right thing means getting old and senile I am right there with you. It all comes back around eventually, well done!

Absolutely, 100%. You did what too many people won't do nowadays, not take advantage of someone. Good for you.

Good for you!!!

Where does good moral judgement come from? I know, do you?

It seems like the older generation understands this concept a lot better than the younger generation. It's all about ME, MYSELF, and I,I,I.

Who can you trust anymore? :tears: I know, do you?

I think this turned out to be a good thread because there is plenty of "food for thought", for everyone.

Enjoy the past in your vintage audio everyone!

I bought my 1000A back in Oct. from a retired Navy Officer who had gotten it in 1966 in Japan. He wanted $50 for it. He also had a semi working TEAC A4010 R2R and a set of Kanazawa speakers with CORAL drivers in them. He had the TEAC for sale @ $50., and had a Moving box of indexed and cataloged 7" reels he hadn't listened to for 25 years and wanted to desperately. These were also for sale but no price set.

So I made a deal to fix the TEAC (It powered up but no play) labor being the speakers. Fixed the TEAC (COMPLETE recap, diodes, belts, new cord and cleaned and demagged the heads, cleaned and polished the case). When I got it back to him, I hooked it up to his system, we listened to a tape or two, THEN I told him what the average price was on "eprey" for a working 4010 and advised that he should get no less than $150-$200 for it. Also left my info for a 1st dibs call should he want to sell it. When I left he had brought up the box with the rest of the tapes, and had put on some Perry Como and had a grin that would melt the TITANTIC's Iceberg. And the BIG thing was the wife was SMILING TOO! 2 RUN HOMER!!

As I got the 1000A so cheap, I'll gladly give him $200 for the TEAC. I know it's history, and what shape it's in now. Plus it looks so much better with the 1000A than any of my AKAI's.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Just goes to prove there are some decent people left in this world. Very nice story Krow. My 9090 belonged to my either my fiancee's father or grandfather, both of whom are no longer with us. I doubt I'll let it go for that reason alone.

I'm new here, but have been reading much over the last few days. I sensed there are some really good people here and Krow, you prove it. You gotta watch the circles you run in or with. This be a good circle for sure.

I'm even enjoying my Sansui 5500 that I bought about 37 years ago even more now to the point where I'm wanting another one but a notch or two above the 5500 which ever that one would be :D :D :D
