Sonneteer Campion

Thanks, Kevin. I do love the sound I'm getting from the Sonneteer/Line Magnetic combo. Definitely a step up from the Brio-R/Apollo-R.

I may think about upgrading my best system after settling into the room next yr. It is a construction site now. The Sonneteer will definitely be high on the list.

Art, that is indeed one fine looking setup, simple and so refined. I am sure it sounds fantastic. A lot to be said for simple systems in general. Well done! Tim

From this day on, I'm now also a a happy owner of a Sonneteer Campion!

It was well worth the 2 month wait, as it's indeed a superb match with the PenaudioRebel 3 I also ordered to go with it.
(they haven't arrived yet, but my dealer was so kind to lent me his demo-pair for over 2 months already now) :)

Compared to my previous amp (Naim Nait XS) the Campion seems to share more with the Naim than it differs.
The main difference is the treble. Luckily it's not overly smoooth, like so many amps. (one aspect I was a bit frightened for, after owning Naim amps for several years) It is sparkling and highly detailed, just as the Nait XS, but it's a little less hard and has this slight warmth to it, that's quite typical for Sonneteer amps.

I'm getting a bit curious how a serious TT would sound through the internal phonostage of the Campion. (my dealer recommended a Rega RP6)

Pic's will follow later, when my (light-oak) Penaudio Rebels also have arrived.

Cheers,
Alco

Hi Alco,

So you've found yourself going full circle it appears - well I for one am very very happy for you. As I used to own the exact Campion that ArtK now has as well as been through three different Naim Naits ( original and two different vintages on the 2 ). I came to realize that I'm more of a tube guy these days - but the fact remains in my mind this was in fact an excellent sounding amp.

Yet, I'm going to do one better and offer you more insight into which cables song with it as well as a turntable.

Do a Well Tempered Simplex w/. Dynavector 10X5 and be done with it - period. On the subject of cables and I went through my fair share of these in an attempt to voice it to suit me ears/senses and so on were either Crimson RM Music-Link or NVA ( Nene Valley Audio ) LS5 Speaker Cables.

Power Cord wise a simple Acoustic Zen Tsunami II or even the Shunyata Research Venom 3 will suffice.

Once again - it all comes down to an open-mind and trusting in ones sense/heart as a guide when trying to find ones way to enlightenment as well as - as my wife puts it " contentment ".

Once again, welcome back home.

Regards,
O_o scar

Congratulations Baldo.

I had been working up to a Naim for years but you-know-who influenced me to go for Sonneteer. I am very happy with it, but am still way behind you guys for speakers, cd player, turntable. Well, you have to start somewhere.

Kevin,

As one Mini-Monitor lover to another it seems from looking underneath your signature. Many of your speakers are more then capable I might add.

Now it's about making a way to get a WT Simplex as well - afterwards you can sit smile and laugh to yourself as you see others trying to figure out what's what?. Same applies to CD Players - look into what ArtK has said about the Line Magnetic Audio LM-215 and enjoy life as it is.

It's about growth and finalizing what's important to you that counts - we live one life - there fourth why settle when one doesn't have to - we deserve nice things in life just as much as our wife's and girlfriends do, do we not?.

Spend it - and be that much happier I'd say.

Regards,

Thanks. Wise words from Oscar.

Now I remember where Art's Campion came from :)

I really don't know how I came to have so much British in the speaker dept. One led to the other I think.
I have to be patient until I get this house rebuilt. Enjoying listening and working at home for sure.

Kevin - you're more then welcome.

I'm a person of logic - as we tend to forget that in this short lived life we often forget about the little things that bring us joy or passion as we let our loved ones sometime have to much power over our purchases - not I, thank God for a wifey of 38 years that shares my dreams and actually loves the sound of vinyl and tubes enough to have purchased a lot of this stuff for me in the past.

As she puts it
" it's the only mistress I'm willing to tolerate " as she keeps you home.

I was an avid collector of many of the speakers from either Britain or Denmark for the longest until I hear a pair of my beloved and now defunct DeVore Fidelity Gibbon 3s - now there's no going back to anything with less bass then 45Hz - 6dBs in my life.

All the claim of said speakers in regards to midrange - but a tad more refinement plus mid bass detail. I'm done either way one see it - contentment is about knowing when well enough is just that - enough.

Enjoy the home rebuild - but don't ever think for one moment you don't deserve better or to be happy for that matter.

One life - live it.

Good one.
Nice to hear of a successful marriage. I got lucky when I remarried 8 yrs ago. Seems like 8 months not years. I can't immagine 38. I was 20 years between wives, and that plus both marriages total only 36!
Good going. My wife doesn't boss my spending but since she is frugal I don't advertise it either.

Cheers.

Thanks Oscar & Kevin!,

It does seem that I've gone full circle indeed. I had a Campion before around 2004 and loved it, but missed adjusting the volume by remote.
(I had a Naim CDX back then. Now I can adjust the volume using the Ipeng app for my SB Touch)

Thanx for the cable advice Oscar, but I'm very happy with the ones I'm using.
(Chord Cobra plus interconnect, AudioQuest NRG-3 powerchord and some very special, very thin 'homebrew' ls-cable from a local HiFi store)

Do a Well Tempered Simplex w/. Dynavector 10X5 and be done with it - period
I'm afraid the WT Simplex is a bit over my budget, Oscar. (when my dealer recommended the Rega RP6 I actually had an RP3 in mind)
Also, I'm a bit 'scared' regarding the weird 'oil-in-bath-arm' aspect of the Simplex. Somehow I prefer a normal arm, like the trusted Rega's.
(besides that I'm confident that the Simplex is a superb turntable)

I only have around 60 LP's and it's pretty hard to find my favorite music/albums on vinyl, so I thought I'd start on a more modest level.

kind regards,
Alco

Yes, Kevin.

It has been a very very joyous 38 years at that - as it shows that many of those old school city hall marriages can in fact out last those ones where ones spend thousands and are often divorced with a year - she's the best damn $25 investment I've ever made, but we'll safe the rest for another day.

Brother - handle yo business - that's what matters.

Where's Art?, by the way.

Alco,

It should once again go without say - but you're more then welcome. As for the cabling matter - you do realize that the AR Sound Greenlink's will stump the lower end Chord Cables right?, and AQ is mostly produced in China as some have mentioned for years now ( I forgot where I heard that one?, but it was years ago anyways ) whereas the Venom only cost $150/1.5m here in the states and can be found cheaper used - and I can't knock ' home brewed ' cables in the least as God knows my little DIY looking - but ' Big Boy Sounding ' Clear Day Cables Shotgun ( standard ) produced from pure solid core silver float my boat on tube amps, to the point I've stopped looking at others.

In regards to said table issues - I've always noticed one very very very important matter as one invests into the best tables regardless of brand/designer label/tags it wears? - ones collection of vinyl grow at an alarming rate compared to what was once invested into CDs.

You can quite easily find that within a years time - your collection of vinyl has began running around the baseboards - at around 250/500 minimum. I lie to you not, vinyl has a way of making one run to the record store 2 - 3 times per day - at least 4 times per week as I found myself during back in the 80s and 90s.

*( And, please don't forget to invest in an Okki Nokki RCM - and you won't might buying second hand records - which then speeds up the process even faster. )

That was when I was able to get about more freely then I'm able to these days - but through the powers of the Internet - I can find any given LP anywhere in the world with a single click or two and it's shipped - modern technologies does serve some uses - if done correctly.

Visit places like eBay - Gemm.com and Disclogs.com as well as ratheyourmusic.com and venture out into the unknown waters when it comes to record purchase - you'll very very very surprised just how fast she ( your record collection - that is ) grows.

Get the Rega RP6/Exact and be done with it then.

Go for it - Alco.
You deserve it.

Cheers,

Hi Art,

I'm merely wondering how your venture has gone in regards to your system?, as I've began to notice that you don't post as much as you once did - I pray that all is well with you and your loved ones?.

Just a shout out.

There are no record stores in my town unfortunately. Only 1 in a bigger town nearby, that I visit about twice a month.
Their s/h vinyl corner is growing by the day, but they're rather expensive imho. (appr. € 10,-)

There have been 6 LP/CD fairs organized during the last 6 months, in the centre of my town, but...I noticed that the last 2 were canceled.
(probably due to a lack of demand/visitors):(

I kinda hope you're wrong Oscar, as I live in a rather small appartment.:D
I think I have room for about 500 LP's max!

Get the Rega RP6/Exact and be done with it then
My dealer recommended to go for a Benz-Micro Silver cartridge, instead of an Exact.
Luckily he has another demo Sonneteer Campion & Penaudio Rebels in his store, so I can audition different TT's in his listening room first. :)

I'm more or less house written with a condition called Gout - that doesn't allow me much freedom outdoors as much either - but since November 2009 when I was forced to stop working and file and was approved disability after working all of 33 years of my life at the same hospital where I met my beautiful tree hugging wife - with side jobs in the USMC and selling Linn/Naim gear in my youths. ( yes, that was spelled that way on purpose - it's sort of that NYC Thang ).

I've sat here each and every month looking at records through eBay or sites like Acoustic Sounds - AudiophileUSA - Elusive Disc - Insound - Music Direct - Soundstage Direct, and been able to constantly add to my record collection which stands more then 22.000 give or take a hundred here or there?. And we reside in a 1.400 square foot apartment as well - but I merely have one of our children go by either my Moms or Brothers homes where I store the majority of my LPs and grab a few boxes at a time every other month or so - and was allowed to put shelving units set 16" above the floor in our basements storage cage ( yes - I thought about this height before hand - no water damaged LPs here. )

In regards to cartridges - your said dealer is wrong on this one as well - go instead after a Dynavector 10x5 or Nagaoka MP-200 at the very least and don't look back. Much better bang for your buck I might add. And besides both are more forgiving of used records whereas the Benz would emphasis such wear and tear.

I'm sorry to hear about the lack of space to exceed more then 500 LPs - as I should've recalled after spending time in Japan - many countries don't have the size rooms we tend to take for granted here in the states and then feel we need more when the children have left for college or have began their lives - I say downsizing to an apartment where a maintenance person is a phone call away as are people to preform landscaping duties - as old boy just isn't cut out for shoveling snow or cutting hedges or grass these days.

But we all must survive within our means and endure said trying times - as we don't have much say how things evolve, so enjoy it while we can still cue up those lovely records and make time to laugh - smile - dance and play, because it doesn't last.

And that's an olde school real world way of saying enjoy life for what it is - things in all of our lives could've been a tad bit better - but in the same breathe they could've been worse as well.

Live life - and never think one has tomorrow to do the things that shouldn't been enjoyed yesterday.

Old School indeed.
