Hello all!
I recently purchased a Sony PS-LX2 Direct Drive turntable. Everything appeared to be working perfectly at first. 33 RPM works without any hiccups.
However, when I put a 45 RPM record on, it was running at about only 37 rpm. So I found the service manual for the Sony PS-LX3 (Very similar internals, same main board). I didn't have any deoxit, so I figured I'd try cleaning the pitch control trimpots and 33/45 switch with some isopropyl alcohol. That ended up doing the trick for a day or two.
Next time I put the record on, it played perfectly normal until about the 3rd song on side B after flipping it. The pitch randomly dropped and then kept fluctuating. I just put my finger on the 33/45 RPM switch, not even pressing it in, and it instantly sped back up to normal. I noticed if I kept lightly tapping the switch, it would sort of mess with the pitch randomly. It would also happen if I lightly tapped it with a metal screwdriver. Nothing non-conductive would affect it. The Servo lock light would turn off and on each time it locked to a new speed.
I also noticed any time I got near the pitch controls inside of the turntable while trying to adjust them, the motor would speed up. Not even touching or turning the pot yet. Not sure if that's some sort of magnetic thing with a screwdriver? So I immediately stopped. I'd love to know if anyone has any ideas.
I keep adjusting and have it play fine for a while, then it randomly decides to go haywire. Do I just need to get in there and clean the contacts better?
