I thought the original price was much higher. I know the SS-M9ED, same but with an added supertweeter was much more expensive.
 
They are about a 30-40 minute ride away for me. I noticed a missing dust cap, a screwed up tweeter, and the obvious that is stated in the ad, two slightly different finishes.
I know they are very highly coveted, just wasnt sure if I should try to get a hold of them.
 
The tweeter might be a problem, though you should hit up the AK custom Google search. I think it's been addressed before. A dust cap is easy if the driver is OK. I just replaced them on my Boston A40 woofers within the past few minutes.

The "slightly different finishes," I would assume, are because one sat somewhere where caught more sunlight than the other. That should also be easy to fix.
 
Point out those possible problems and use them as a bargaining chip. You don't see those pop up very often and the price seems reasonable. At almost 6' tall those are some big uns.
 
I would love to get these. Close to 3 hours drive one way is a bit prohibitive today.
If anyone could pick them up and P/E I pay for gas - meeting half way perhaps?
 
Stated crossover problem too. That has me more concerned than the unobtanium drivers. Some research says the drivers were all custom. Some have worked on one crossover, but I guess these contain 2, and the second is very hard to get to. If I had more $, I would still take a chance on these. Just reading about some of the similar speakers here on ak have me interested.
 
The normal price is $800 to $1000 for a pair in good shape. Once again folks on AK show that no matter how cheap something is, and no matter how good the deal, there are still some who want to squeeze the buffalo off the nickel.
 
Back in the day those where excellent speakers, I've heard them.....if they can be "restored like new"....they would be worth the price......
 
I e-mailed as well, no response so far. I suspect they're either long gone or it's going to turn into an auction.
 
Good luck to whoever gets a call back. That's a great price if you're handy. There are places like Van L here in Chicago who can repair many a driver that appears to be "blown" if that's the case.

And that's correct for original list, the M9ed was MUCH more expensive, and quite a different speaker actually, in all but basic premise and shape.

We're all a bunch of cheapskate wheeler dealers around here. :smoke:
 
Granted, it's a good bargain, however, my thoughts are how much more money will have to be put into them to make them what they should be, and how long would that all take? If they are as rare as they seem to be, the parts will be that much more rare. When you do find parts, I would imagine the seller can ask what ever they want.
