Wow, always admired that series. I had a chance to buy the whole series at a swap meet one time. The guy had done HT with them. SS-M3 all the way to the 9 but without the bullet tweeter. It was cheap. One of the few times I've regretted.

That's one id regret too. I have the M3 and M7 already. I've never heard the M9, but if the littles brothers are any indication...

I am tempted to make them into a HT if I can score the M9. It would make one hell of a HT. Currently I am using KEF q500 with the q300 center in my main theater room so it's no slouch, but soundstage on the Sonys are incredible and would probably blow away the KEFs.

Ask him to e-mail you a photo of the speakers with a current newspaper front page visible in the photo.

This guy has 443 feedback ratings and only 11 of those are as a seller. If it were me I'd like a little more confirmation that he actually has the items in his possession.

Great idea. I would be surprised if he actually did it though.

I'd be even more surprised if he actually had the speakers. :smoke:

Some poached pics are not encouraging. The other photos are so bad that it is possible they exist. At least the carpet color and base boards match. I would prefer to see them before handing over cash.

Is he auctioning the speakers or has he kidnapped them for ransome?!?

All we are seeing is photos, the majority of which have been lifted off the internet. I for one would not be sending any of my hard earned in order to buy a look at lifted photos rather than something that someone actually has in their possession.

If the person truly has the item in their possession they should have little trouble verifying that. If they couldn't or were reluctant, that would be a flag to me that perhaps I should be reluctant to part with my readies for what may well be nothing more than an attempt to lure me with photos of a rare desirable component.

I'll pray that any future winner of this 'auction' actually gets what they are paying for, and not the disappointment of realising that they should have exercised caution given the circumstances.

The rule with all purchases whether on-line or face to face remains let the buyer beware.

No, I get your concern, and I agree with it. I just thought it was funny to see a picture of a guy holding up today's paper next to the speakers, like a kidnapper's picture. I expected to hear Liam Neeson telling the seller, "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have is a very special set of skills..."

Honestly I don't see the concern here as to whether he does or does not have the speakers, since it is a local pickup only sale all you need to do is go over there verify they exist look and sound good then pay by PayPal on your phone or his home PC when you pick them up considering that it is an Ebay/PayPal sale the buyer is 100% protected on his money, if they do not exist or look or sound awful simply retract your bid/s. Perhaps I am missing something here that you other folks see :scratch2:

The red flag to me is the fact that he says "he will not disclose the location until they are paid for". That is a big fat red flag. I will send him a message, but my hopes are not high..

It looks like will accept credit cards as payment if so pay him with a card to his PayPal account and you are double covered. I think that he may be a bit paranoid about someone stealing his gear but with 12k worth of stuff I would be hesitant also about disclosing where it is.

Since you bid on it you may be able to get his phone number if so call him.

I'm leaning towards scam.

Anyone that can afford that kind of equipment would take a little more effort in listing them and would at least make sure the text was readable.

Maybe he means his specific address, so they won't get stolen, as others have mentioned above.

I don't know, just seems odd the way he wrote that. I've sold things on ebay in the dollar range these will end up and never gave it a second thought.
