Well, for anyone who’s curious, the amp is a TA-AX205 with matching tuner, cassette deck and equalizer. The amp is only rated at 30wpc, but I have to say that it actually sounds really sweet. For some reason the faceplate says it’s a “power amplifier with all stages direct coupled.” Not sure what that means, especially since it’s clearly an integrated amp. I know it’s not Sony’s best effort, but it’s certainly not BPC and I kind of like it.
This stack was stuffed inside an old Magnavox ‘Venetian’ console that the previous owner had hooked up to the internal speakers, though the tweeters weren’t connected. I can’t imagine it sounding all that great that way. The funny part is, heaven help me, I actually kind of like the looks of the console and might use it as a gear rack. It’s definitely not my usual taste. Funny, huh?
