hi Ive came across a sony str-313 receiver,radio doesnt work at all and phono and other inputs only work in mono, any ideas where i could start.

That high voltage buzz
If you're not getting a lot of hits, it might help to provide a link to a schematic and some pictures of the area in question. Also, taking some basic voltage measurements and recording them on the schematic at the appropriate place is a good starting point.
There are plenty of excellent 'arm chair bench techs' here at AK but it is your responsibility to find the support info and be prepared to be the eyes and testing agent in the process.
Lastly, be aware that not all Sony products made it to the US and Europe. This, too, can account for the lack of knowledge of the receiver. In this case, post some pictures of the rig as it will be of general interest for that reason. Frankly, I don't recall it at all.
On your symptoms, one of the most common problems, for some reason, is that the Pre Out and Power Amp in jumpers are missing. This would account for why not intputs appear to work nor does FM. As for operating in mono only, how have you surmised this?

hello cattlethief. Welcome to AK. The STR-313L service manual is at HiFi Engine.com. Also bet the switches and pots could be needing cleaned with DeOxit. The instructions for using DeOxit are in a thread in the General Audio Discussion forum. What dshoaf has put up is good to check. The STR-313S Service manual is at HiFi Manuals.com.
