Sony STR-7045

Very pretty. Really like the wood case. Those Sony units were extremely well built. Crank'er up and enjoy!
 
I had the STR7045 and it was a good. We used it in the bedroom for late night fm jazz and classical. It has been a while but I believe it is 40wpc and about the same as the older STR6055.

I have a Sony str 7065 for many years and am still impressed with his musiciality, and response at low frequencies. The FM is very good. Full and detailed sound, like it a lot. They say the 60xx line predecessor don´t have IC ( Integrated Circuit) is all discrete components which makes it superior in musicality But I dont know READ:

How does the STR-7045 compare to a Toshiba SY-335 and SC-665 combo? (And a ST-335 tuner). I'm thinking of upgrading and moving the ST-7045 to the garage...

Sony 7xxx series came out ahead of the Toshiba models mentioned but not by that much more but the Toshiba is a step across, IME. I sold all of it back then.

I just picked up a very clean STR-7025 yesterday at the thrift. Everything works including all the lights. It has a wooden case but I think the veneer is vinyl not real walnut but that does not take away from its classy good looks.I paired it up with some Dynaco A35 speakers ( the A25's bigger brother) and the sound was excellent for a low power set up. It has an excellent tuner which I really like.

Is the STR 70XX series 100% discrete ? . Does it have any IC?
 
It is all discrete with the exception of some of the FM section. The preamp/power amp sections are all discrete, IIRC. That's the last generation of Sony gear to do so. Later generations started reducing component count (and, therefore, cost) with IC-based circuits. Many of the late 70s generations had rather proprietary chips at that, which makes them a bit more difficult to repair without donor units.

That is a beauty but I believe it's an STR6045, not an STR7045. The STR6045 came from the early '70's series, the STR70x5 series from the mid '70's.

I have a STR6045 also (unfortunately without the beautiful case) and it is a sweet little receiver. Don't let its bottom of the line position fool you. I currently have it hooked up to a pair of BA40's...great combination.

I got one of these a few months ago(str-7045). It sounds really good with the right speaker. My only gripe is, this receiver is not compatible with low efficiency speakers. But it shouldn't be. Other than that, great with my Boston Acoustics A100s, EPI 100s, Advent, etc., the standard greats!
 
Fantastic receiver! Playing Coltrane looks into a pair of Boston Acoustic a100s. Ambrosia!! My only gripe is this receiver mates well some speakers. My Snell model K, and other low impedance speakers sound horrible! My other receiver is a HK 730, and it sounds good with just about everything. But other than that, terrific!
 
Underated and under the radar. Love my 7055, and would only off it for a 7065. Keep quiet about these
, you will drive the price up
