I'm not currently selling mine but if you're not firmly set on the STR7045, the STR6055 is almost identical in both appearance and specs. You could also try posting a WTB ad in the BarterTown section.

Yeah I've been able to locate one. I'm surprised how much these old units can still command. I don't remember what they sound like in comparison to today's tech. It was the only stereo we had when I was a kid.
Sony used to be one of the more affordable alternatives to the more popular Marantz/Sansui/Pioneer brands. However, lately I've seen some relatively high asking prices for some models (STR7065, STRV6/7, GX10ES, etc). I think some good deals can still be found on the STR-60X5 series especially if you're patient. I really like my STR-6065, a model that gets very little press.

I own a Sony 7065a got powering a pair of A/D/S Braun L710 speakers and my opinion it's a very sweet sounding receiver, with tons of features, and plenty of power, and the build quality is rock solid. I mean the receiver is already 48 years old and it is preforming perfectly, and it still sounds better than a lot of other receivers that I've owned over the last 30 years.

Just hooked up a 7045 after my Pioneer SX-780 quit on me. So far I’m really liking it. Have it hooked up to some Bose 901 II series and despite being on the lower end power wise it’s making them sing just fine.
I’ve had it sitting in the basement for a year and never bothered to hook it up before. Bought it off a guy I know that scours yard sales and thrift stores. I think he only wanted $40 for it. Felt bad so I bought some albums off him as well.

I’ve been using a STR 6055 for a year now after it replaced a receiver that needs work. I love the sound of this unit. It was the progenitor of the STR 7045 which is essentially the same unit, with a few minor internal changes.
It’s never had a hiccup and I regularly run 4 ohm loads. I’m driving a pair of AR3as or EPI M50’s as seen.

No. From my knowledge, the STR-7025 had the STK-054 ICs in the power amp section, and an all discrete tuner section. The STR-7035 has the STK-056 ICs in the power amp section and an all discrete tuner. I think only the STR-7045 and higher numbers have all discrete power amplification sections.
The lower models in the lineup up to the 7035 included (I have not worked on the 7045 and above) are designed very poorly when it comes to serviceability. The 7035 even has a few capacitors right under the shafts of some of the rotary switches, so there is no way you can replace it without a lot of disassembling, which you cannot do without unscrewing and carefully removing out of the way just as best as you can the tuner board and the main preamp/switch board: very fiddly process as there is not much slack in the wiring and the shafts of the pots are very long and need to clear the front panel. Definitely not a joy to work on.
Sondwise, in my opinion the models with ICs are nothing special and I have yet to find an STK-056 (or any early Sony IC for that matter) that does not produce a noticeable hiss. I am curios to hear if you nopticed that too in your 7025.
The tuner section and the looks on the other hand are really very good.
Purchased mine years ago here on BT. Was having issues with my STA-78 and decided this one was too pretty to languish on BT. Never turned back! I love it....plays flawlessly, all functions work perfect. You would have to shoot me to take it away!!

Keep this topic alive again in 2024! I just pick up one Sony Str-7045 to add to my collection since I have Str-6065 and Str-6800SD. I have a couples Pioneer SXs and Sansui but I am impressed with Sony Str sound. This 50 year old (Sony) is still working in this condition (dusty inside). All the light are burnt out and pots are dirty. Give a clean it a clean up and add 2 LED lights, change three big filter capacitors and 2 small one on the amp board. Then I could hear a big different in the sound! The selector does not work, only Aux works, if changing to AM-FM, the sound from the Aux still come (Deoxit it already). I have not got AM-FM from the selector switch yet.

Sony, like Marantz were considered a step above, tended to cost more when new. I always thought Sony had a classy look to them. It was good stuff.
I almost got Marantz 2230B but the seller changed his mind so I end up to get Str-7045 for a fraction of the price of Marantz but some reading say Sony sound very close to Marantz 2230B. I will recap all board soon. I think this Sony layout is very straight forward to work on it.

Sony STR-7045 was made available around 1973 or 1974. It retailed for $370 which is over $1800.00 in today’s dollars. So, it wasn’t cheap. It puts out 30 watts per channel and is known for its selective 4 gang tuning section.
Marantz 2230 receiver retailed for $349.95. It has all the classic Marantz attributes such as the brushed silver face plate, blue and red lights and gyro-touch tuner. The 2230 was a nice entry level model from Marantz and it put out 30 watts per channel. Production of the 2230 ended in 1974
I have a pristine 7045 acquired years ago from a friends family who rarely used it. Wood case. I use it in a small system with some Boston Accoutics three way towers and it sounds good. I knew it would having repaired a few through the years. Sony made good stuff and it did tend to cost more. They used to have advertisements back then what would have the words, 'Its a Sony', indication of given quality.
