Sony TC-366 knocking

And another question: When I moved in September, the movers dropped my much-loved Sony TC-366 tape recorder. When I got all my gear set up again, I found that the player was making a knocking noise when I played back. This is a mechanical noise that sounds like something is definitely out-of-place. The tape plays, but the machine makes that regular knocking sound.

I'm fairly handy with a soldering iron, and I don't have any reservations about opening the machine up to repair it myself, but does anyone have any ideas about what to look for?

Lots of moving parts in those single-motor machines.
As suggested take the cover off and operate the machine and look around.
Don't forget to look in the backside as well. The motor fan runs close to the wood case in the back.
If the motor has been moved off a mount the fan can hit the case.

Wow. This is all so helpful! Many thanks. The issue seems related to the tape tension lever. That is, the noise starts when when I start play, or if I push the lever to the play position. It's a fairly high-frequency knocking sound. I suspect that something got jarred loose in the move. It doesn't affect play back -- that is, the sound doesn't come through the outputs, so it seems to be a mechanical issue and, for now, not utterly life-threatening. I guess I'll see what I can do this weekend.

By the way, if the TC-366 and TC-377 are basically the same model with cosmetic changes, I guess I can cannibalize one model to fix another, should I find some parts around, correct?
