Sony WM-D6 will not power up...

Hey all...

technical question here.

I have a SONY Walkman (WM-D6) that does not power up at all. I've heard it is probably going to need a DC-DC coverter part that is no longer available from Sony...

I have another vintage 80's walkman, the SONY WM-1. Is the DC-DC coverter in the WM-1 the same used in the WM- D6???

I would be willing to sacrafice the WM-1 parts to get the D6 up and running...

you can find out by downloading the service manuals (maybe even by looking at the specs
for input voltage that may be in the user manuals). look at the back of each unit and see
what the AC adapter is supposed to supply.

alternatively, ebay has zillions of DC converters from china that do up/down/single-to-dual
voltage conversions. they are cheap - you cannot even buy the parts here in the US for
what they charge.

There was no indication in the thread that anyone had actually substituted another DC-DC converter for the original Sony part and achieved success. There is a parts unit on eBay right now with a description that states it "powers up" which could be a possible source for the replacement part(s) you need. Even the parts units are not cheap.
