Sorry folks, need to vent and some advice

A really bad thing happened (in my prospective!) the night between the 1st of july and yesterday prompted me to break this rule and write this. Sorry folks, I need to do this as I feel like I'm going to explode!

I love cats dearly since I was a kid and recently at the job (gas station owned by my stepfather) a very timid and well mannered gray tiger striped cat surfaced. I think you all already understood that something went very awry. This cat is (was) a stray and the first few days he was quite reticent to be petted, but in a short time a reciprocal trust between him (we called him Bruce, as my stepfather is a big fan of the "Boss") and all the guys working there made him very loved. He never scratched or bit someone and loved to get some attention jumping on the office's desktop and, once laying there, purring very loudly.

Well, to make a story short, some bast**d pig shoot him the night between july the 1st and Yesterday, letting him bleed to death. In fact he was probably shoot on the near walkway and with his last forces, he arrived near our trash bin, where we found him dead. Believe me, tears are falling from my eyes, I'm so mad in this moment and at the same time regretful for not having took him at home. This was my mum's idea too, but, as already we have 2 adult cats, a baby cat and 2 dogs (labrador) in a 160 mq home, this really appeared not a viable option, but now I'm even more sure that was the right thing to do. He was regularly fed from us already at the gas station, so what was the matter to give him a real home too??

So, here is the advice part, if I ever discover the identity of this son of a b***h that did this terrible thing to a defenseless cat, what could I do short of shooting him on the sight and letting him bleed to death too?OK, I know that this will not resurrect my buddy Bruce, but I think I would take him into a closed room and slap him so hard and for so long he is not gonna exit the room on his legs, I'm serious about this! Is there something that can be done about this? I'm feeling really really bad

You gave him love, love that he did not know before hand. He knew that. Some are not capable of that. You can't hurt them more than they hurt themselves.

to tell you the truth, I'm not vegetarian by any means, I love meat, but I cannot tollerate domestic pets abuse or murder (a friend of mine had to shoot his own dog, because it became mad and bit seriously the people around, my friend included. It was just too dangerous and this is the only exception I admit). Too bad the Italian animal rights association, with any probability, would not be bothered to investigate and punish the SOB who did this. I just hope the karma will punish him.

Incidentally, if Bruce went under a car I would probably still be quite mad, but not so much as I'm now, the anger I feel now is so strong that I need to dissipate in some way, quickly, otherwise I think my whole body would resent. This cat was clever, really clever, so I'm sure he would never have been killed by a car, he recognized our cars and, out of nowhere, he came to eat and to receive (and give) caresses, too bad.

Really sorry for the rant

do you have any video monitoring that may give any clues ??
 
Timofred, no, unfortunately the gas station is not equipped with a closed circuit video camera, a similar installation is really expensive and, to add insult to injuries, this reqires lots and lots of paper about privacy and similar sh**s.

You can bet what you want that if I had the video and identified this scumbag, now I would be with all probabilities in jail because of all the damage i made to the gentleman.

One of the bad things about me is that I consider domestic pets like humans and probably would have less problems to kill a person than a pet.

What can I say, I feel like a piece is missing in me now and the anger is still really high

I just hope time will tame all of this

I understand how you feel.

Back when we were dating, a couple of decades ago, my wife had a Persian cat named Guido (her older brother named her for Fr. Guido Sarducci, an American comedy character, in spite of the cat's gender). She'd had the cat since she was a child, but at the time Guido lived at her mother's house, while she was living in a college dormitory room. One day she went to her mother's, and found Guido on the back porch, having been shot three times by a pellet gun, bled out. She'd been shot somewhere else, and drug herself home, only to find that no one was home.

Time does heal. but even after so long, we still get angry about it.
 
James, thanks for this advice, police may be tried as they are our customers, I have the sensation they couldn't care less, but I would be very happy to be wrong!

It seems like every legal solution hits a brick wall before even the start...

Hey, wait a minute... putting poisoned meatballs to kill animals is illegal, right? if this is the case, we may be onto something

Well, I feel for you. Almost as bad as the cowardly senseless killing of a creature that can't fight back is the burden of carrying the anger and hate that you now have for the scumbag that did this.

You have a gas station? And a lot of friends, strangers, travelers etc will be passing through. Put a sign up at the gas pumps. Spread the word of what has happened. If someone has killed your friend Bruce the cat then they have probably done similar things in the past. And probably will do it again. Someone will remember them or notice. Get their own bad karma working against them and give that burden of anger and hate back to the asswipe.

Thanks everybody, I am surprised that so many people understand my situation and how I feel, accidents do happen, but killing domestic pets on purpose is just plainly WRONG. If you want to pratice target shooting, by all means, use some bottles, NOT an alive creature, not even a pellet gun should be allowed

What I'm wondering in this precise moment is: if we found him hurt, but still alive, could have a good veterinary saved his life? Realistically it's a moot point as we close the gas station from 7.00PM to 6.40AM, but nonetheless this question is still tormenting me.

Only time will heal this, but I doubt I will forget all this

Unfortunately, YES, mainly because there is NO control, and when they control, it's the honest person that pays for everyone, but let's not disgress to politics. My town is composed of about 25000 souls and is relatively quiet, but bad people is everywhere.

As James said, I hope bad Karma strikes this delinquent

So sorry to hear. I live in a farming state and have witnessed the incredible cruel acts people carry out on animals in their care... or not in their care, it doesn't matter.

Some people are incapable of extending empathy to any being other than themselves. A fact of life that cannot be escaped from or ignored. It is disheartening.

Yes, I am lead to believe (from logic, but logic nowadays went under the shoes) that shooting on the streets is illegal, but police would prefer not to be involved unless a human being is killed.... Grrr, what an unfair world and law.

So sorry to hear of that senseless killing of your friend!

Don't take matters into your own hands as you never know who may report it & don't know why you are retaliating. If the time comes & you can identify the culprit(s) then call the authorities.

I just heard on the news channel last night of a senseless act of animal cruelty where someone or persons took two cats & impaled their hind legs onto a spiked fence. One cat ran off when the animal rescue workers took him/her off, but I am sure they will have serious problems & maybe die somewhere. So sad!

The other cat had to be put down right away as it was affected so gravely! I tell ya, the human heart is most awful at times!

jesus... I am soo sorry..

I absolutely loath people that would do this sort of thing... legality not withstanding I honestly think I would beat half to death anyone I caught doing such a thing.

Realistically however... the better course would be to report with as much evidence as possible their heinous crime (and it is a crime) and hope the jerk(s) end up in jail... I can't imagine being in jail for attacking little animals would be working out so good for them (if you know what I mean).
 
Your good customers, the ones who care, must have noticed Bruce and that he is now missing. Let them know what happened to your, their, friend.
