Sorry folks, need to vent and some advice

Post a message and hand out leaflets about what happened. Then if someone turns the person up, take a picture if possible, make some posters out of it and plaster them all over the place. Humiliation works wonders for someone as cold hearted as this person is. And in small communities, can be like being shunned or excommunicated. Turn your anger to productive use and I'll bet someone knows something that can get the ball rolling. Then instead of risking yourself doing something you know you could get in trouble for, you can show him to his friends and family for the scum he is.
The problem is some folks see stray cats or dogs and think they are doing the world a favor by killing them. These people would never understand why you're even upset about it much less angry. I'll bet if you take some time to sit down and map out a plan of action and get it started, you'll at least feel better for doing something than just sitting and fuming over it. Make them pay for it and not you.

I still feel very sad and somewhat depressed about this, my mind is still in the phase of wondering "what if I had been here at the right time" and knowing myself, it will be really hard to exit from this loop.
Two days ago (the day Bruce was found dead and my stepfather dug a hole to put him to rest in peace) my male cat at home wanted to sleep at all costs with me, I think he understood the bad mood I was in and tried to alleviate it.
When I feel a little better than now, I'll try to do some leaflets. The main difficulty is that I currently work at the second gas station we have and this place is located quite at a distance from where the fact happened.
It was me who started the relationship with Bruce, and about two to three weeks later I had to move to this place, so I saw him only twice a week instead of 3/4 times a day, every day! Nonetheless, when he saw me, he was very very happy, I feel so bad now, even worse thinking about it.
I just don't want all of this fly by without something done, this act cannot be forgiven

One time I went to a nightclub with a friend and her sister who happened to be an employee of the nightclub. The sister got very chummy with another patron and it was beginning to look as though it was going to be his lucky night.
A friend of mine who was a policeman stopped to speak to me and during the conversation he told me that the guy with whom my friend's sister was dancing had just gotten out of jail after doing a year for torturing cats. I passed the word to my friend, who passed it on to her sister, who told all of her friends and coworkers at the club.
It changed from his lucky night into the night of the cold shoulders, and he was never welcome there again.

Giulio, sorry for your loss. I really think the other AK'ers provided some really good advice. Post a picture/description of what Bruce meant to you and his demise on the counter of the gas station. Maybe make it a donation jar, then take the proceeds to a local animal shelter (for food or care of other animals).

Update: It seems we found the s**t who did this to my friend Bruce, He now knows that at every slight provocation, he will receive a lesson he will never forget for his entire life and over. Incidentally he has dogs that insistently barks all day every day for no appearent reason, so maybe poisoned meatballs to his dogs could be a nice surprise for this "excrement", kidding, but not too much...
Now, it would be very nice if we can make him pay dearly for his crap, but how? It would be a little gesture for him to gift us a gray tiger striped kitty cat, but Bruce's character would be very difficult to replicate, and at the same time this is not the same as having the "original" still alive and well.
Ok, as I told before, we already have plenty of cats at home, but nonetheless having another gray striped panther with us would be indeed really nice!

I've followed this sad story, but may I suggest that it's time to let the matter end. It's normal to feel bitter and angry over this, but nothing you can do will make Bruce come back. Move on and show love to the animals with you.
Like yourself Giulio, I'm very protective of my animal friends. I get angry and want to confront people every time I see a tree being cut down that I know has been a yearly nester for birds. Every time it happens, my first instinct is to punch the guy with the chainsaw, but of course it's not his fault. Then I want to punch the owner of the land, but I don't know who he is. Then after an hour or so of calculating how much time it's going to take me to find the owner, and then go through the mental machinations of how I'm to approach him to the matter, I find myself sitting in my backyard enjoying my trees and birds. And this is because.......
......nothing else matters.

I'm a true believer in Karma and that people will someday get back what they give, good or bad. Don't mess up your life retaliating against this bum. Try to remember the happy times you spent with your beautiful cat.
I would let the police know the person's name and any evidence you have that points towards him. They may not be able to arrest him, but they might keep an eye on him and catch him at something else. Jerks like that don't just do one random thing and quit.

You could see from the tire tracks that it took a few attempts before they were able to finally crush him. To this day I still think of that sweet dog and the terror and pain he must have experienced in his last moments.

my MIL has a neighbor with two pitbulls, that get out of their yard daily. They MAULED her poor cat Satche a couple days ago..and she was never found...poor thing...
police said "meh"
neighbors said "your cat was in our yard" (false)
now, FIL is at city hall, trying to do SOMEthing about it...
I feel your pain. :tears: It's so hard to understand. The best thing you can do is let it go. It won't be easy and will take time, but it's the best thing you can do for yourself.
I probably shouldn't say this as I'm probably breaking the rules, but I'll take the risk. God will get even with the person who shot Bruce. Trust me on this. I know of where I speak.

As long as it gets reported. Things like this reflect poorly on the PD. I am sure the other police probably do not want that image. The cop who did that - was he in so much need to prove his masculinity to himself that he had to shoot a cat?
It does not help to say karma will get the SOB yet it is true. He will eventually dig his own grave cause like someone else said, pricks like him do not just do one isolated incident.

I feel I must clarify a thing or two:
first, no, it's not a cop who shot Bruce.
We are almost certain we identified this douchebag because my stepfather extracted the bullet from Bruce's body and a cop/friend admitted unofficially that only 2 people have this kind of caliber weapon nearby, one is around 10km away, the other incidentally is the neighbor living in the other side of the street. Oh oh, too much of a coincidence!
Also, when my stepfather saw him, followed him (not phisically, but by the sight) mimicking an armored hunter ready to shot him. When the s**thead realised this (that we are almost certain he was the killer) he immediately lowered his head, like he was ashamed and sorry
What conforts me is that a lot of customers asked about where the cat was in this moment, so he was at least appreciated and has not gone unnoticed

Not sure how I or others might have thought it was some policeman. Something sounded fishy about a cop shooting a cat. Attacking stray dogs, yes, but not cats.
