Had the 15s and sold them a few years back.
I believe I have 2 pairs of CM500 and a set of SMT1000.
Great Canadian speakers.

I have never owned a pair of Sound Dynamics speakers but being a teenager in the 70's and 80's quite a few of my friends have owned them and are as far as I am concerned a quality great sounding speaker.

The local audio store where I grew up would almost always include Sound Dynamics speakers when someone would buy a Marantz powered setup from them and they always sounded great.

About a year ago at a thrift store I came across two pairs of Sound Dynamics one large pair and one pair of real nifty and heavy bookshelf size speakers (don't remember any model numbers). I had/have no room for the larger pair but I really wanted the smaller pair, they needed refoaming for sure and I wanted them to be my very first refoam job. But the tag on the speakers said both pair had to be sold together, I asked the guy if I could just buy the small pair but he wouldn't separate them no matter what. So I walked out with no speakers, but I still think about them now and then and if I see another pair I will grab them for sure.

I had some Signature Series 45s but they had more quantity than quality to their sound for my taste so I sold them. I still keep an eye out for models I might prefer.

Back in approx. 1980 I bought 4 15s to go with my Pioneer SX-1250 that were utilized in a former Nuns Convent that my brother and I purchased in Stony Point Ont. Let me tell you that was the one rocking nuns convent, also had a pair of 12s,10s and a smaller pair that I just don't remember if they were 8" or 6" woofers.:D Currently looking for 1 or 2 pair of 15s if anyone interested in giving some up.

I have a set of Concert Monitor 1500's when I want to blow the curtains back. I also have four sets of R-818's and two sets of SS-30's as well as a THS-4000-V sub and a THC-1 center channel speaker. They were very good quality Canadian Speakers made by API (Energy, Mirage, DB Plus, Image, Athena).
They also make some house brand speakers for LOGIK and AUDIO PULSE. Db Plus were a house brand for stereo stores in Canada, but they became so popular among clients, that they kept requesting to purchase them. API then began production for the general public. I have one set of these as well 100 MKII Plus.

Here is a link to all their Sound Dynamics products with info and pics:

The other API products are there as well.

I enjoy a set of 1200 SMTs, sound great on my lower powered SETs, tweeter is very nice, as much bass as I would need and mids pretty good..if I lost them I would want to replace them.

I have been a big fan of SD and the whole Line from API... love them!! Have had them on Nikko amps, Yam's and the latest is a Luxman Suckface 102... no matter what I pair them with (exception of the sony Da3ES cant figure that **** out) they shine at huge volumes and the Sound stage ... blah blah blah... they rock!!

ya, I had a pair, think they were amazingly good speakers, punched way above their weight class. rt 9 maybe? (it's been near twenty years, I forget)

I have a pair of 12S's and a pair of 1000 SMT's. I love the 12's but the "shape" isn't wife friendly so the 1000 SMT's are in the main room right now. Not that it's a bad thing. The 1000's are really good too.

15s are nice for sure. had a set of 12s and actually still have the mains and may re-empower them one day. These lil fridge bastards are what keep me awake at work... and 20 stiches in my hand... pics attachedIMG_20160410_202943.jpg

I am going to revive this old thread with a question. I have the opportunity to pick up a pair of R-818s in good condition on a trade deal for a set of studio monitors I use on my desk. I am using a pair of klipsch KG4's with the Crites upgrades for my 2 channel listening. Does anyone hear have experience with both and if so which is the better speaker? I won't bother with the SD's if the Klipsch are better. I listen mostly to jazz, female vocals and classic rock and I use a Nad Viso 5 receiver.

Old thread revival.

Interesting that you say the sound wasn't very good. I've only ever read another 2, maybe e opinions on them and they were quite positive.

Have you heard the Ti or either of the reference series'? I have a 7.1 setup of R-series(predecessor to the RTS) and am curious how they compare to the RTS, Ti and S series' as I've only ever heard my R-series.

Old thread indeed. The ones I had were cheaply built and sounded it but a lot of sound/value for money perhaps. I know some of the SD stuff is much better but the only other one I’ve heard is a nice 8” powered sub.

Thanks for replying. I've made numerous posts on in the "official" Sound Dynamics thread asking for specific information but ne:er receive any replies
