Yup ... George Baker apparently was the Canadian distributor of Cerwin Vega. The classic Sound Dynamics design, 2-way with the spun aluminum horn tweeter and big woofers (even with orange surrounds), was his take on the CV.
Later SD models really were focused on the home theater market.
It's a fascinating, and not that well documented, piece of Canadian history.
Not directly related to SD speakers, but I just saw in George Baker's obituary that he also distributed EPI in Canada ... which probably explains why Winslow Burhoe was involved in design of the dual hyperdome tweeter used in the Energy Pro 22 series of speakers.
I understand that George Baker and his brother started API. Sound Dynamics was one of their 1st lines. Howard Heiber started Global Industries which later merged with API, and retained the API name. Howard became the President. George became VP of Marketing, or some such. Later George left and became involved with Nuance (too bad).
Paisley Research did have a tie-in with API. Ian Paisley's own speaker brand I understand was manufactured by API. Later Ian took over as VP Engineering from Kevin Vorecks. Kevin did the original designs of the Mirage line-up ... which (somewhat amazingly) morphed out of the British Tangent Acoustics through their Canadian distributor, Inception Audio.
API and / or Global OEM'd speakers for a number of Canadian companies ... some of which (such as Paisley and Mirage) later came into the API-fold. A number of others started as house-brands for various retail outlets ... such as SDM and dB-Plus.
Couple other product names ... Image, SPL, AudioPulse. ESM is a model-line of Energy.
