What company made sound dynamics speakers

I recall a buddy in high school who had a pair of 15s. The local dealer who sold SD also was heavy into JVC ... so they would often get paired up together. I think my buddy had something like a A-X7. Worked great for parties.

I have a pair of Sound Dynamics RTS-7-1B speakers which I picked up at a yard sale a couple years back for $5. They are the 2.5 way towers with 2x 5-1/4" woofers, and a dome tweeter in a very shallow waveguide:

These have been my "daily drivers" for a couple years, along with a Paradigm 10" powered sub. They sound pretty darn good for what they are- plastic-framed woofers and a dome tweeter with a "waveguide" which is more for looks than directivity control. I really don't like dome tweeters, but the mid-bass performance is good. I'm seriously thinking about ditching the tweeters and "e-waving" these (Thanks and God Bless Zilch), with a pair of Eminence N151M-8 compression drivers on Denovo EOS-6 waveguides. That would fit, and should really sing well with the necessary crossover tweaks. Matching directivity at the crossover point is a key which was missed by so many otherwise good speaker designs of the past half-century. I like the potential here, but I'm not afraid to get the sawzall and router (and soldering iron) out :)

very fond of my 12S speakers and ive repaired the woofers

Are your 12" woofers on the outer attachment point to the inner surround angle attach or flat attach?

I just acquired a pair of Sound Dynamics 10S speakers, and the original yellow/orange colored surrounds are in need of being replaced.
The outer cone of the 10" woofer has a flat lip that attaches to the surround.
A read where a lot of people use Cerwin Vega surrounds, but I cannot seem to be able to find the orange colored CV surrounds with a flat inner attachment.
I am only finding angled attach foams.

Anyone know of a source of 10" orange colored surrounds that will work with the original Sound Dynamics 10S woofers with a flat inner attachment?

eBay seller 'Audiodogs' has flat-attach for the 10S but they are not orange ... he states these are no longer available. I've bought from him before ... good product.

The original SD surounds were bright yellow. The best replacements are indeed, Cerwin Vega. They are, like the Sound Dynamics, a dual layered surround.

Loving this thread I just stumbled on. I am a big fan of the API stuff, and really liked the info on George Baker and Ian Paisley. The NRC facility in Ottawa, Ontario (Canada) benefited a lot of Canadian speaker manufacturers, including Paradigm, Camber (Rega, early on), API, PSB, and possibly Axiom/Merak (the latter have their own anachoic chamber at their factory now in Dwight, Ontario (Muskoka). I have stood in it; weird feeling!). I have had many of the API products, Mirage, Energy, SD, and our daughter has Athena. The spun aluminum SD tweeters are semi-legendary, and I have a pair installed in Altec/Lansing Model 3 speakers, because someone hacked the cabinets to put PSB-type tweeters in, but did a horrible job. The larger diameter spun units cover a multitude of sins, and are a surprising match. I am sitting here right now trying to decide whether I like these modded Altecs ove my JBL L40 speakers. Listening to Sirius/XM Deep tracks; undecided at this point. They both have great positives. Still looking for a pair of Sound Dynamics 12s, unmolested I'm hoping. Might pick up a pair of 100s needing re-foaming I saw on kijiji, but I haven't made the contact yet. For fits and giggles, land a pair of Energy PRO22; you will be amazed. One of our NZ AK'ers is blown away by the cabinets! I agree, but love the stitched woofers as well!

Recently picked up a pair of Image Concept 100 bookshelf speakers. Dual hyperdome tweeter and stitched surround on the 6-1/2 inch woofers, similar to the Energy Pro 22, and over-built enclosures. This pair needs fair bit of work, especially with the hack job done to replace one of the tweeters with a non-original one.

I also just re-foamed and sold a pair of SD 100 Mk2. Small bookshelf, Vifa tweeters, typical API woofers made by Cambridge, in a front-ported / mirror imaged layout. Similar to the ESM-4.

Regarding the good old SD S10 12 and 15, it is sad that we have to use Cerwin Vega red surrounds( and these are the right ones to use) as the OEM SD yellow surrounds are double ply, like the CV's, cause George would be pissed!. He created SD as a direct competitor to CV!.

i had a pair of 10
s for years. when i moved two years ago, i could not take them with me for various reasons, so i gave them to a friend. i wish i had them now. absolutely fabulous speakers. so well built and tremendous sound. i reconed them about 15 years ago. i might do a search on the 'bay for a pair sometime.
