I have been working on a few things around these. So I thought it might be a good Idea to create this thread and consolidate the info I have posted and others in the past.

I by no means know all there is to know about these amps but I have done a fair bit of research and have repaired a few of them.

So some basic info to start.....

Hi,
Does anyone have the scematic or service manual for Mtx Soundcraftsmen H5002. I believe that this is the last of the 5002 series and seems to be a rather rare bird. I picked one up that I am trying to repair and the scematics above are somewhat different from mine. It is completely dead, no power with a good fuse and power to the power board. I have replaced the triac, scr, and caps and checked the 12 v supply on the power board, but no luck so far. Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated!!!! Thanks!
 
So based on the thread on adjusting the DC offset would it be possible to offest the effect of poorly matched transistors by changing R3 in the RA7501?

Edit: Sorry for resurrecting this post, didn't realize how old it was :/

Yes it would same basic circuit design flaws and all. I fixed the link to the offset thread. R3 being a 68K resistor.

Would it be possible to put a header on R3 to make swapping easier or would that cause more issues than its worth?

I just purchased an RA-7502 and have really enjoyed your posts. I am new to AudioKarma and this thread is amazing. Have you done any work on it since your last post? The circuit board layout/trace pics for the Amplifier board would be the icing on the cake...........

You know I was just thinking about going back and finishing up the board layouts / pics for the amp boards. But I have sadly not completed it yet.
It is very time consuming to reverse engineer these boards from the schematic.
I want to do these as single sided opposed to the dual sided that some of the earlier models used.
The boards that are green are dual sided and the brown boards are single sided.
 
I've been acquiring a decent amount of This gear recently as well, all my stuff is the Mosfet type, but regardless, what I've been able to listen to so far, sounds very good. :music:
 
I picked up my RA-7502 today, it was new in the box! Wrapped in the original plastic with all the docs, etc.! I was so jazzed to get it! I turned it on expecting that I would measure the DC offset and the "B" channel LEDs all lit up,right out the top. The "A" channel LEDs are all normal. I then set it up with my L300s with the front pots turned all the way down. I ran the inputs from my PC and played a few FLAC recordings, etc. and turned the pots up to about 9:00. There is sound on both channels, but its not all there and I am afraid to turn it up any further as I don't want to risk damage to the L300s. Any suggestions?

Can you take a few pics of the LEDS and the back I want to see how the input board is setup I should be in normal position not in the bridged mode.

Caps could have dried out NOS does not stop the caps from aging.

What do you mean the sound is not all there?

Regarding the input at 9:00 I generally max my controls out and use the pre amp to control the gain can you turn the amp controls up and turn down the input?

Caps could have dried out NOS does not stop the caps from aging. That would mean every electrolytic on every board right?

Yes every cap on every board.

Offset is typical for these amps you can get it lower in the single digit to low teens with matching diff pairs.
What color are the filter caps silver or white? If silver I have seen these fail. Never have seen the white ones fail.

The LED Board I would check all the diodes reset the ICs if socketed.
Rick at Stereomanuals.com has a service manual it is not the best but it is all Soundcraftsmen ever put out.

Did you even finish the board design? I'm working on making some A5002 boards and didn't realize someone else had been working on it. I'm basically done, I just need to remeasure and verify the connectors and mounting holes are in the correct location.
