Soundcraftsmen PE-2217 Schematic/Service manual

Hi !

I have a Soundcraftsmen PE-2217 in great outer condition but someone really messed up the inside (wrong or incomplete wiring, wrong or probably wrongly orientated caps, burnt resistors). I could really use a schematic or even service manual.

I'm a little worried about some things though. The power supply is getting quite hot (the two 10ohm resistors and the heatsink). also two 750ohm resistors as well as all 4 transistors in the line amp are very hot (can't touch them for much more than 5 seconds. Does anyone know what the output voltage of the transformer should be ? I'm getting 44v which makes for 51.4v after rectification on 50v rated caps, seems odd that soundcraftsmen would be cutting it that close.
 
What is the history of this unit? Has it always been in France? What I am asking is if the unit has been converted to run on a voltage not from the USA
Where exactly do you have 51 volts?
These voltages seem high to me as we are looking for a regulated voltage of around 33-35 volts out of the ps what is this voltage?

That's THE question, I don't know actually. On the back it says 120V AC but there is one identification plate missing so that might very well have stated this is a 220v version. The buyer said it worked on 220v which is true (on a dim bulb tester just to be sure), I'm just a little concerned about the voltages that seem high. On the other hand with a step down transformer I only get 17v out of the power supply and that again seems very low. What might have happened is this is a 220v version but today we actually have more like 235v mains explaining the few extra volts putting those caps and other parts under quite some stress. Do you happen to know what voltage I should be expecting on the secondary ? If so I might be able to source another transformer with the same secondary winding but built for 240v input.
 
do you have a variac? I agree you will need to recap this if you can not get those voltages down I seem to remember needing to be at 40 or so volts after rectification.
If you give me a few I can get a voltage from one of mine
 
I don't no. Today I re-measured and with 236V AC mains going in I now have 44V AC on the secondary and 48.4V after rectification. That would really help yes thank you .
 
Unfortunately the guy that put his hands in it before I got it also broke the track on one of the equalizer pots :(. I Saw someone selling these on ebay for a very decent price but shipping is 4 times the price !!

To Phono and amp board 33.74

To Equalizer board 31.18 vdc

I do not trust either of our readings on the secondary side of the transformer. I used three meters and read three different results from 48 to 46 volts
the important reading is the rectified voltage.

I did not feel anything getting hot not in the ps or amp boards now I am not driving anything just plugged in to the wall.

The power supply getting hot is maybe understandable but I do not see how the line amps should be really hot what voltages do you have out of the regulation
 
That is very close to what I'm getting 34.36v to phono and line amp and 31.8v to the equalizer amps. The two 750ohm resistors in the line amp are dissipating 300mW so I replaced them with 2W resistors. I think this is probably all fine, I'm just going to replace the first two caps from the power supply with 63V rated parts, and the next two that are 35v with 50V rated ones.

Just have to deal with the broken slider pot now.

You could check Mouser there are sliders not sure if you could make one work mounting maybe the issue
 
Does anyone have pics of the innerds? It's been several weeks since i took it apart and now I can't figure out how to remount the phono preamp board. There are no brackets and I have no idea what it looked like when I took it apart. If anyone has one that's apart, please take a pic of that. I just recapped it and am also having some other issues that I still need to try to sus out on my own but may post some questions later.

Hi, I still haven't fixed mine. I made a rookie mistake and put a couple of the larger caps in backwards and blew a resistor. It doesn't work correctly and my PS voltages are wrong. I want to replace the transistor and diodes in the PS in hopes it will fix it but there is no parts list in the service manual. I found the correct transistor replacement, but the diodes don't have enough specific info on them to know what to use. They are A1R, 085, 005, and 1N4. Does anyone have any suggestions on figuring out what diodes to use? Also still don't know how to mount the phono board
 
Sorry I can't help with the diodes, but I can at least attach a few photos of the phono board in my 2217. Hope this helps!

Thanks. I have that board mounted but what about the one aove it. Taken from the top of the unit. How is that board connected?
 
Not sure I understand your question... Are you asking where the wire bundle goes from those two boards?
