Junk might be a tad harsh. There aren't many small speakers that will sound decent with a watt or two of tube power. These will. I was given a pair with a bad tweeter. I was given a pair of Zenith Allegros that were far junkier but had the Foster horns. I turned those two mediocre sets into one listenable set.

I suppose in a general sense you're right. There are certainly worse out there, no shortage of them really.
FWIW, i was replying with an extreme economy of words and relatively speaking to the context of my knowledge of the OP's exposure to speaker systems. He's been messing with some real good bits for a while.
I kinda doubt those Critereons would displace any of the speakers currently in his world.

Probably not, but I wanted to say just for general info that I don't know of a smaller pair of cheap speakers that sound good on flea power and look decent. I'm certainly not suggesting that they are B&Ws or Martin Logans, just that they do fill a certain niche.
I keep my pair to run with console pulls I'm working on. Good enough to let me know what's happening, but dispensable if I screw something up.
