Speaker Recommendations - Wifey likes pretty things!

I don't know if they're your cup 'o tea, but, there are many JBL's in your size range (budget, I dunno) and they're almost all real wood veneered.

They are pretty, cute and are magical......what more could you ask for?

My current favorite when it comes to aesthetics with a vintage walnut look are my Infinity 2000a's. I replaced the grill cloth with a linen fabric. I liked the look of the original grills, but one had faded badly. I think I like the look of the new fabric even better. They sound pretty fantastic too!

Here they are on some short stands I made.

My Sansui 2000x is currently in need of repair, so I haven't tried out these speakers with that receiver. I believe they recommend a minimum of 35 WPC for these speakers, so the 2000x would barely clear that. I have only used them with considerably higher wattage.

Another option if you want to go in a very different aesthetic direction would be the JBL Decade series. However, they are oak, not walnut, but my wife really likes the looks. Here are my L26's with new orange grill cloth (which is supposed to be a replication of the original orange option). They would probably play nicer with more modest wattage receivers. They sound great with my 30 WPC tube amp (Pilot 654 MA).

Edit - I just looked at your photo OP, and I don't think the 2000a's would fit in that space. Looks like the L26's would, but the orange cloth wouldn't really fit that vibe. Maybe the navy blue would work.

I'm a little late to this thread, but I'll throw in my 2 c worth.

I'm a bit of an AR fanboy. The 3s (which I have) and 3As will be out of your price range. I found my 3s like a lot of power. I tried a bunch of amps and receivers, tube and SS. They really sound completely different when you get up to 80 watts or so. The difference between a pair of restored Dynaco Mk III (60 watts) and a decent Carver (80 watts) was enormous. They are wonderful on my Marantz 240 (~160 watts into 4 ohm).

Keep your eyes open for a pair of AR 4, or 4x. I think they sound like the 3s, just "smaller". They will also be happier with your lower powered receiver.

Some of the Realistic Nova series speakers are great, and have gorgeous veneer. I had a pair of 7Bs that I really liked. I also have a pair of 6 in my basement.

All in all, though, you can't go wrong with your A25s.

I have seen many stellar reviews of this speaker and it would be near the top of my list if I was looking for something small and had $2500 to spend.

As I see it, the two issues with the Harbeth are:

1) The bass may not satisfy the OP. While I am sure it produces great quality bass, it only goes to 75hz and the OP already mentioned the lack of bass with some speakers. Since the OP won’t be adding a sub, this might be a deal killer.

2) Price. If you can find a used pair you are still probably looking at nearly 5-6 times the cost of almost every other speaker mentioned in this thread.

I have never heard Tandberg 15's, but they are unique and amazing looking in my opinion. Not as common in US, but they can be found at reasonable prices ($300-400) in US if you look.

Oh there's a bunch of options. Spend some time here on the boards reading threads and looking at things. Members Systems and Listening Spaces sections have a lot of great photos.
My choice for you with what you have said would probably be KLH Model Five's. About 95% of the AR3 sound for about 1/4 the price tag. Also much better looking than the AR's.
Another option would be some EPI/Epicure M series. Lovely looking with some nice brass inlay accents. Highly regarded sound too.

Here are the Fives:

Some Mitsubishi Diatones I posted in another thread, along with some Hitachi. The OP inquired about the best Hitachi speakers and as usual one thing led to another so obscure brands you wouldn't expect came up.

These are the Hitachis I found that looked interesting.

The Mitsubishi Diatones look nice, I hear they aren't cheap either.
