My L-100's sit on original, 1970 walnut AR speaker stands and they seem to be just the right height for my ears.

i have l112s, l65bs, and l166s and maybe some people wouldnt use these but i did and you can even spike them. i bought the small round top bar chairs maybe 20 to 24 inches high the legs are black with a stained round top. i bought speaker stabilizers (theyre urethane i think) to set the speakers on the round top and you can spike the legs easily because theyre wood. the speakers seem to be very stable and when setting in my lounge chair the tweeter is approx at ear level. they are also cheap 25.00 a set. thanx brad

Will having the speakers closer to the floor and tilted up be better for bass response vs.having the speakers up on higher stands?Nice wood working on those stands.

Next speaker stand project is in the works.
I dare not say the company name here for fear of being ostracised for life but also feel they really do belong in this thread since they are in fact JBL L100s with a different name plate IMHO. see:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_HPM-100
They were also the very first speakers I ever bought brand new as a teenager in Europe back in 1978 (50/100 watt version) when I was a military dependant. Thank god for summer jobs and no TV over there which got me into audio big time. So back to the thread topic - you have to know I'm going to build stands for these puppies! - the ones that came with them are just OK. I will likely be building an up-scaled set just like the JBL ones but, yeeesh, a different logo.

Whoops, too late again

I bought a pair of Decades late last year from the original owner. He got these stands from the stereo shop where he bought them circa 1976. They're not JBL, but a perfect match for the JBL finishes - oak veneer with a black MDF pedestal. I spiked them, and put Blue Tack at the contact points. Puts the mids & tweets at 28", same as the 240Ti's next door, with the pedestals angled back about 5 degrees.

Next Speaker Stand Project Done

I had to scale these ones up because the speaker is a bit bigger than my L-100 speakers. Some may argue that anything related to Pioneer HPM-100 Speakers doesn't belong in a JBL thread. My arguement is that since Bart Locantahi (engineer formerly of JBL) was the driving force behind these puppies as direct competition to the L-100/43XX series of speakers, then the stands for the HPM-100 should belong.

This is an interesting and timely thread for me. I am in the process of changing things around in the MB, including putting a flatscreen on the wall, moving out a lot of stuff that was taking up floor space, and putting a system in. Sony STR-7035, Denon DCD-1500 and my bought-new beloved little JBL L15's. I have a soft spot for all these pieces and love having quality audio in the bedroom. However, little bookshelfs like the L15's look silly on the floor and I know the wife will be very unhappy (translation - not happening) if I go back to the "stands" I used to use with these - antique chimney flue pipe (6" round, 32" high, a dark kiln-fired finish). They were perfect - heavy and interesting looking - but I think I'm going to go with something less obtrusive. So I'm thinking about making stands to get them about 6" off the floor and tilted a bit - not sonically perfect but good enough. I'm going to go with a square-ish concrete base maybe 2.5" thick for heft, solid black steel rods up into an oak base. I'm going for a simple, "industrial" look. When I start the process, I'll take some pics and post.

I use a pair of original AR walnut stands. The tops are about 15" above the floor.

Get the L100 up high enough so that the tweeter and midrange are at ear level when seated. This will eliminate any low end boom, also make sure they are out of the corners and a good foot from the back wall, they will sound excellent.

Trying to find your stands!!

Hello all JBL L100 owners and everyone else)

I recently acquired JBL L100A speakers in very good condition.
Now I'm in a process of choosing proper speaker stands for them.
I found online vintage JBL wooden stands for L100 series
but they seem to be to low or I am wrong?

What is the proper height (min-max), weight and design (metal) of speaker stand
that is intended to carry L100?

Very difficult to find. Many people nowadays make them themselves, pretty easy to do.

The originals will occasionally pop up on eBay. They can be very expensive, which is why many will make their own. I've seen the exact dimensions on the net, I can't recall what site though.

I have my original set purchased with the L166 (1976), and still used with them. I also copied them for my 4311's.

not sure it they are exact dimensions. but on the first page of this thread, someone posted some dimension with the stand taken apart

A speaker stand that lifts the L100s 8" off the floor with a 5 degree upward tilt will closely aim the tweeter and mid-range to ear height sitting 8' away.

I found these original JBL stands to be a perfect match for my spoiled brats pair of 4311 monitors. The secret is their 1' height and 5 degrees backward tilt. It makes all the difference in the world. I use them for my L65A's too and they are so much better than those low cut wooden L100 series JBL stands. I think a foot off the ground is the minimum for L100's

So, I guess, if you're gonna build some DIY stands, build those instead of the low cut wooden type. If you're not convinced, just have your L100's sit on a foot high timber log or some kind of raising platform and slide some paper folds underneath to give them a 5 degree angle. Then see for your self... :yes:

I am going to try to reproduce those stands for my Jbl 112's. Is there any way you could list the dimensions of the top, bottom, and middle pieces as well as the thickness of the boards? Thanks in advance.
