Speaker wire questions...

With Vandersteen speakers it is an absolute must to Biwire them. I never noticed a big difference with BiWiring my other speakers until I bought Vandersteens and the difference is night and day. His speakers are designed to perform their best when biwired but you may not find that’s the case with other speakers.

Yeah, I don't know if my Jamo speakers are like the Vandersteens in that they make a big difference with the bi-wiring but I can say that I did hear a subtle improvement. As Akustic said, "subtle differences add up." I totally agree with that idea. As a musician I've tried to make that case to many bandmates over the years, many of whom would accuse me of sweating the small details of the sound too much. They'd argue that "the audience will never notice that one tiny thing," which may indeed be true, but if there's a bunch of tiny things that aren't properly addressed then things sound bad and the audience will notice that.... even if they're unable to isolate the various things that are responsible for that...

It is absolutely true that small details add up to noticeable details in a setup. It took me over 3 yrs to get my system to where it is the the last little bit was speaker cables , power cables then an isolation transformer for the icing on the cake and it has all added up to be an exceptional sounding setup imo.

Power cables?!!! Yeah, I might just ignore that part of it. My old Marantz doesn't have a disconnect-able one of those and though I'm sure it wound't be too difficult to put another one of those things on, I think that I'm just going to tell myself that it's too much of a PIA to crack that thing open and deal with that! There's probably more than just eliminating hum/noise that better power cable does, but at least as far as that, I'm pretty good. Though I live in an older house, I'm pretty sure that it's had all of the wiring updated (at least the sue box is a newer kind) and somehow with my old Marantz amp I'm getting really clean sound. At a normal volume setting I don't hear anything hear when the music is off and even when the volume is way up, I only hear the faintest bit of noise...

When a system gets to a certain point of resolution you would be surprised that yes power cables do make a difference and in some cases a big difference. What they are doing is taking the noise out of your system and making it so you hear deeper into the music and I’m not talking out my neck in saying that either .

I was a cable naysayer until I opened my mind and started trying them myself, when I heard a difference I tried another then something else , each iteration I had an improvement. That may not be the case with others but I will say that if you just say nope a cable won’t make a difference whether it’s speaker or power then you’ll never know and continue to be ignorant to them, but if you try it and don’t like it or you do hear an improvement then you can back it up by saying I have tried it and it did or didn’t do something for my system.
