Heck, the trimmed down gauge might even be better in terms of conductivity than putting bananas in the mix. Sounds like an experiment for some rainy day.

So I finally got an hour or two to build my cables and stupidly, didn't measure the binding posts on my speakers before soldering. They can accommodate 14-12 awg, and the ends are pretty close to 10 awg. There are the obvious ways to deal with this (solder on bananas probably make the most sense), or cutting the solder joint to fit.

Anyone got some clever ideas to save me some time (and tracking down bananas)?

A cold bond of the strands seems to be a better approach. These inexpensive 10 gauge butt connectors and Klein crimp tool can do it twice. Trim away what you don't need on the far end and heat shrink everything.

Science and engineering:

I accidentally got some CCAW for an EV project a few years ago. A very bad idea. Of course GM tried to use alu wire in the rear of some of their cars back in the dark ages. Again, a terrible idea.
Not to mention what happened to some houses with that wiring.

Required a little creativity to get 4x14awg into those neutrik connectors. But, I'm pleased with it.
