It's a complicated thing, but there's no doubt an overly lively room destroys imaging. You know your getting it right when the image opens up side to side and takes on convincing depth. Any more than that and the sound gets sucked out of the room.

An overly live room also sounds shrill and full of echoes. OTOH, an overly damped room sounds dull and lifeless.

While I've been using one form of room treatments or the other for nearly forty years, I find that everything that affects the result adds to the emotional involvement for me.

Hearing HP's incredibly transparent systems was always a treat because I heard levels of nuance I was unaware existed in the content and found myself laughing out loud at the realism.
