At least they did a good job making the tweeter plates, but why couldn't they use all four screws?

Not only were there a bazillion Advents sold, but they are now a half century old, so the surrounds are almost guaranteed to have decomposed, and possibly more than once. Back when most started to fall apart, the only way you would know that you could replace foam surrounds was to notice the little ad in the classifieds of Audio Magazine - maybe the ad was also in Stereo Review or High Fidelity.
Add to that that the original Advent woofer (with the Masonite ring) is complicated (difficult) to refoam, and the New Advent, while it lost the Masonite ring, had a curved basket where the outer edge of the surround had to be glued, which was awkward. (And the Small Advent used an odd size 11 inch (if memory serves) surround, and whatever the Advent with the foam plastic cabinet option was called, it was hard to get the stamped aluminum grill off - I think they went into the trash, though, my opinion was that it was sweeter sounding than the more conventional models).
So all sorts of replacement woofers got pressed into duty, regardless of the effect on sound, aesthetics, or the cabinet.

I remember back in the late 60's through mid 70's when everybody with a "decent" stereo either had the small or medium size Advents or Dynaco A25's and A-35's... a few folks had JBL but they were sparse.
Funny thing, is that the square faceplates on those Philips tweeters, look like the tweeters and faceplates from an old pair of Fisher speakers I once saw. Can't remember what model...

Well, at least they used a ribbon tweeter to replace a ribbon tweeter. Sure beats a piezo.

Physical cabinet dimensions are nearly the same. J2050 goes a little higher in frequency range. J520M has a 5in woofer while the J2050 has a 5.25in woofer but they are rated the same per the specs in the manual for lower end of 70Hz. Both with titanium tweeters but the J2050 is larger by 4mm. Crossover is frequency is lower on the J2050 too.
Probably not much difference in sound but I have only had the J520m. Not bad for a a little bookshelf. Lower grade JBL speakers but not crap.
Clean you freakin' house. Nasty dump, whoever that is.
Probably four separate houses.

Well, Radio Shack is dead so no hoping over to get a replacement woofer. Best Buy is no help and all the other audio stores are gone. Besides, a sub is a woofer and a woofer is a sub, right? So if it fits ...
