Spec 2 Salvaged

This arrived a few days ago. Some serious physical damage. Looks like it was purposely beaten with a hammer or something. Its an early model, the serial # starts with V so its a 1975? It looks like one of the amp boards was replaced at some time, the trimmers are different. Also, one of the stv diodes has been replaced as well. The power supply board is broken at the edge and one of the meters is cracked but that is the only damage to the electronics. I'm going to see if I can put this thing back in service. Here's some pics....IMG_20191021_114145861.jpg IMG_20191021_114243000.jpg

Are these spec amps getting that hard to find or do you just like fixing em up? That has seen some hard days, cant wait to see it finished.

A little of both. I have another fully restored Spec 2 and I actually bought this one just to have some spare parts but I just couldn't let it sit there all broken up....gonna be cool to have two Spec 2s on my Spec 1 preamp....

Hi, rhodus.

I am watching and thoroughly enjoying this thread. Your SPEC 2 beat mine for condition. I want to see how you put everything back together. I was toying with the idea of removing the Power Supply and Meter Control boards and wasn't sure what to do with the re-wiring of those boards on re-assembly. I am interested in your approach. "Popcorn".

I read your Spec 2 thread a while back. I really like the terminal strips you used. Where could I find those? Would you have part numbers?

Here are some pics of the broken power supply board and repair. Not pretty but electrically sound. I am on the lookout for parts but they are few and far between....this will have to do for now...IMG_20191027_150541987.jpg IMG_20191027_150549364.jpg

I'm glad to see you're bring her back to life.
You and I are two pea's in a pod when it comes to the listening gear.
That Spec was happy when you showed up!

I have a=two questions.....I definitely have two awh-045 board revisions. The original is revision B, the other is revision G. The G has c19 and q20 along with other details the older one does not. Fine, I guess its ok to have the two in the same amp? Also, while studying these two boards I noticed that one side of the relay1 coil is not connected to anything. In the schematic (noted as relay 5) one side of each coil of relays 1 and 2 (5 and 6 on the schematic) is tied together and connected to pin #5 thru r49. The pc board layout from the manual does not show this. It shows no connection to one side of the relay 1 coil. The boards match the pc board layout from the manual and there is no connection. My question is, how does this relay operate? Am I missing something?IMG_20191031_130624046.jpg [
