spin clean? Does it work?

Was looking to purchase a spin clean. Does anyone here own one? How well does it work? I'm not an audiophile by any means but I don't want to ruin my TT playing dirty vinyl and don't want to screw up my records. some people clean by hand with iso and distilled water? I don't want to spend money on some outrageous record cleaning system. Spin clean seems pretty good bang for the buck? Any info would be great and any recomendations on how to clean also. Thanks!

It is pretty good bang for the buck. The Spin Clean works well.

I got one a couple of months ago and it works great.

At first I was getting frustrated with it because I was getting a ton of surface noise on the record. However, I figured out it was because I was letting some of the fluid dry on the record before I dried it. As long as you follow all of the instructions exactly you will be fine and it will work great.

How dirty are you records? If they are REALLY dirty it may not be the greatest option. I mainly run newer records through to get rid of any packing debris and residue.

Another alternative that works better is the KAB EV-1. You use any vacuum cleaner with it and the vac action makes the difference in quieter surfaces. You clean both sides, vac them off, rinse the record in clear water, then vac again.
It's a small chore that pays off big time!

If you do a separate (distilled) rinse cycle before you dry, results are even better!

Well I'll never clean my records with a discwasher that everyone here seems to rave about. I got out several of my favorite records and put them in my discwasher --turned the water to cold to prevent bring damaged from the heat BUT I forgot to turn off the heating element for drying and now my records are warped beyond repair. NEVER AGAIN!!!

+1 on this recommendation. I have one and it works very well.

The spinclean is just a little tub with slots for brushes. Not sure where a heating element got involved?

I started with a Spinclean and got a Record Doctor V vacuum machine after about 6 months. I've kept the Spinclean, since it does a good job and is easier to use when I get a big backlog of records and want to clean a lot at once. It's a pain, however, when you want to only clean one or two records. That's the only serious drawback to it, I think. If you're just getting started in vinyl, or expect your collecting to stay at a more casual level, the Spinclean should do you just fine.

The RDV is only $200, though you do need to invest in some better brushes and more cleaning fluid(s) to get the best out of it, and there's an upgraded platter bearing you can get that makes turning the records much easier. That said, I don't find that the vacuum machine does a significantly better job than the Spinclean unless I do multiple cleans with multiple fluids.

Love my spin clean and use it often. Have not found a draw back yet. You will surprised, I think, by what's left over after cleaning albums for the first time.

Works like a charm. To be fair, I haven't used any other method or machine, but I'm happy with what I have.

"....Heating element for drying....."

Are you saying you put your records in a household DISHWASHING machine?

Are you kidding?

I've actually done this with some of the records that came out really noisy at the beginning with good results. I've actually started using only 2 cap fulls of solution (Instead of 3) when I'm cleaning newer records. I figure the less fluid the less chance of surface noise. I don't know if this is good advise to pass along but it works for me so far.

If records are noisy after cleaning, do a quick dusting with a Discwasher with 3 drops of fluid. This for me gets rid of any remaining surface noise.

JHS2RT, I wonder if a tumble dry with a nice dryer sheet and low heat would get your wrinkles out?
Sorry, couldn't resist.
