I thought I would link to this sticky that Celt, the Speaker Forum moderator put up the other day in his forum. Even if not news to you, a refresher or reminder is not a bad thing.

When Sully (Chris) and I visited the McIntosh factory for a guided tour with Ron Cornelius in February, he took us into the anechoic chamber. He told us to remain totally silent and still for one minute. Then he asked if we heard any ringing in our ears. We both replied negatively.

He said the overwhelming majority of persons under 30 years of age hear such ringing, due to some degree of hearing loss.

Interesting and instructive.

I hear that every night.... no... not from the wife yelling at me for buying another McIntosh gear. When the night is still, I hear slight ringing. I blame that on.. too much time at the gun range, too much time in the computer room and the worst is driving that damn convertible...

add 20 years on tanks, a couple combat tours, and half a life time of flying open cockpit airplanes with big round engines, yep, there is a constant hiss in the background now after passing 60!

oh ya... forgot about those damn copters I used to fly and those damn outboards when I go fishing too. No wonder my wife keep asking me why do I need to buy these McIntoshes. I can't hear much anymore and a five transistor radio on a Boss speaker should do just fine for me...:tears:

thanks to Celt and thank you Carl for thinking of us!
Im suprised I can still enjoy music at low levels
considering all the years I ran Chainsaw for the Forest service and Nat'l park service, great reminder!

Sounds like you need a lifestyle change (like working in a library).

I have constant tinnitus in both ears and a slight hearing loss in my right. And I can blame it on three words: David. Lee. Roth. September 2003, Keswick Theatre, suburban Philadelphia. And it was almost worth it. That was the show where he was twirling his stupid ninja baton and struck himself in the face, requiring 20 stitches and canceling the rest of his tour. His stitches healed. I still have the tinnitus. But the show kicked ass.

The final site said, "The maximum exposure time for unprotected ears per day is 8 hours at 90 dB SPL." Which I had known for years, working in industry. But I didn't see mention that ear protection is required for that level.

For levels above 96dB SPL, double hearing protection is required; ear plugs and muffs. I, unfortunately, have worked in such a place.

Food and caffein have something to do with it too. I drink my fair share of diet pop ( I have diabetes) and the aspertame makes it worse.

Oh Crap! Don't tell me that now!

I am diabetic too and consume a two liter of Diet Coke a day.
