ST-5000FW Help

Works for me, should it not be a scam. We'll see, if and when it arrives.

Like I posted, it all worked for me this first time. I was rather expecting some kind of scam or headache but damn if didn't work just like they said. They also anwered e-mails about status. they sure seem to list a ton of manuals!

Anyone who wants a hard copy of the ST-5000FW manual that did not get one from Bob can get one from me for $15. That would include postage in the lower 48. I just made a copy for Mike at Radio X and made one extra, but can make more, if needed. Schematics are 11x17. Send me a PM.

I am planning a full recap and alignment. But, no matched filters at this time.

I do try to be a nice guy but I'm beginning to hate your greedy guts, Mr. YB2 :) :)

First, you snag the STR-6200F then you pickup a 5000FW while I'm setting here frustrated about cancelled auctions and "can't-find-it-itis".

Some guys have all the luck - then you rub it in about how poor little'ol you can't find a service manual!

I'm about to cry. :tears:

3300 - 262 = 3038 more posts to get to where he is. He has worked hard to get where he is today and to have earned the respect he has (does he have any?) and the right to get to the top of the heap. What was the old saying? Be patient little cricket. Or was it chipmunk? Take solace. My first audio piece I bought took home in the '50s and only a short time after he got his 6200 I got my 6120. Now let's see basedon my experience you should get yours in about 2062.

Joe - Does this mean that you are no longer interested in that 6060 case?

And, I didn't just find the service manual for the ST-5000FW, I found one to share with everyone (willing to pay the suppliers price, that is). And, next thing I'm sure I'm going to hear is that you don't like the fact that I simply traded an AC IEC style power cord straight across for my ST-5000FW. I really don't consider that lucky. I consider it down-right amazing. Beats any thrift store find I've ever had (limited to LPs and Minimus 7s, infortunately).

Anyone have an idea what those 6 large round components on the larger PCB mounted on the underside of the chassis. Part number 425 401 11? Lefty
That is the MPX board and those cans are L501 thru L506. I have one copy of the service manual left, if you want one.

So they are coils?

On the manual I think I'll take you up on your offer. I'll PM you... I really have no plans yet on going after that tuner, but I have the preamp manual already and the TA-3200F manual on order so I might as well complete the manual collection if not the hardware.. :D

I wish I saw this sooner. I already ordered one from Sony. It is taking some time because they said they need to send it to a copy service beacuse they don't have any new ones (no suprise). At the same time, I ordered the owners manual and they were going to do the same thing with copying an original. I received the owners manual yesterday and they may have made a mistake. It is either the best photocopy I have ever seen on heavy card stock with a textured cover, or they sent me an original. 'File' is written lightly with pencil on the cover. As soon as I have a chance to make a good quality copy, I'll call Sony to see if they made a mistake and ask if they would like me to return what looks like an original that they may want for there files.

That's an impressive price, highest I've seen yet and a problem unit too. Since this thread started, there has been a distinct increase in prices on the old Sony gear I follow.

Not sure if thats a good thing or not.

The thing that kind of suprizes me is how many listings there have been for the 2000F, 3200F, 5000WF in the couple of months that I have been checking. I would have thought they would be more rare being older then the later 70s stuff. They must have sold more then one might at first think?

I've tracked the 2000, 3200, 5000, 3000, 2251 and a few others since last January. I'd have to do a count to be sure, but it seems to me 3200 is most common, probably 2 dozen or so in the year from about $110 to $300. Maybe a dozen or fifteen 2000 from about $175 to $300. Maybe a little less than a dozen 5000 (including mine :thmbsp: ) lowest was about $160. Seems to go in batches, and seems to have some correlation with the discussions here, though that might be imagination on my part. High prices are primo units or CapeAnnAudio who seem to have good gear and great presentations - they got over $250 for an STR7065. There was also a bozo who sold dead Sonys for a while and got great prices. Lots of withdrawn auctions and relists too.

Buy in the summer.

Forgot to mention that I also have the owner's manual if anyone wants a copy. It is by far the most complete owner's manual I've ever seen. Also have the 1968 review from the defunct 'High Fidelity' magazine and Sony's 4-page advertising review. Copy of everything for $15 (which is about my cost), which would include postage in the lower 48.

If you are interested only in the schematics, send me your e-mail address as I have them in .pdf format.

If my POS HP 'all-in-one' printer/fax/copier/scanner would scan into a .pdf file (or if you can tell me how to accomplish this) I would send them around electronically at no cost.

Are you going to post the pics of your Sony?
All my Sony pic's are here: http://audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=52651 Do a 'thread search' on the model you might be interested in looking at.

A friend just sent me the 2000F, 3200F and 5000FW set for the cost of shipping. I am interested in service manuals especially the tuner.
