Stacked Epi 100's??

The EPI 1000 wasn't really stacked, but indeed it consisted of four tweeters and four woofers- but all facing a different direction. Drivers weren't stacked, really, but yes- it was a multitude of drivers in a singl enclosure.

I applaud EPI for some of the designs made- really creative. And great speakers.

The EPI 20x series featured- either a woofer & tweeter facing forward and upright, or for the other model, a woofer and tweeter 90 degrees apart on two sides. I confuse the exact model numbers, but they are 201s and 202s, I think.



The Large Advent somehow pulls off a good stacking. Maybe the EPIs can do it too, I dunno.

I typically prefer not to stack speakers, but am not against others doing it.

I built those a while back. It's a basically stock M100, with another M100 cabinet fused to the bottom of it. The mating sides are cut out, to make the cabinet act as one cabinet, twice the size of one M100. I built an 8" passive radiator to go in the bottom.

Sounded pretty good... more bottom end extension than a stock M100.

Gave them as a present to a friend, and he's happily using 'em now!

My favorite speaker stack right now is a pair of epi 100's on top of a pair of boston acoustics a400's. Laying the epi on it's side it's the exact same width as the 400. I mean within less than a millimeter. They look like they were made for each other. The sound; yes they were made for each other. The midrange suckout that the 100's are famous for is offset by the nice mids on the 400's. They image quite well and seem to do everything well together. For the stacking nay sayers if you're happy with your singles then I'm glad. Don't knock stacking with silly statistics cause they don't mean a thing to my ears; the proof is in the stack not in the paperwork.

It'll sound terrible. You should immediately disasemble the second set and send me the woofers for my 150's :D

Any way you set them up congrats on another set of nice speaks. :thmbsp:

I sometimes run the epis with a set of missions for the exact same reasons (and results) that your speakering of.

There were a couple of EPI loudspeakers that had a double complement of drivers on the same speaker face.

Nope, that's holding diffraction mitigation foam surrounding the Tang Band tweeter, necessary the way I have them mounted on flanges.

Too engaged in listening to the Morels in the bottom row to measure whether they need it or not right now.

I like em stacked too. Couldn't resist. If this is too offensive to anyone......well it is just speakers. :)

Needs a bit of bass (base?) enhancement to really appeal.

One downside of a stacked arrangement in Earthquake Country is a lack of attachment for the top pair. I'd expect even a small quake could topple them.

Uh, that you destroyed four pairs of vintage Acoustic Research bookshelf speakers?

I sure am glad Zilch is around to tell us what is and isn't acceptable and make sure lousy speakers like those ARs don't last another 35 years...
