One of our members has a snap shot of a (Star Trek) video clip, as his avatar, and a conversation began to evolve around the avatar. I know there are other Star Trek related threads but this one is aimed at TOS.

So any favorite episodes, comments, etc are welcome here.

By far one of my favorite. Relevant topics, some cool tech and crazy 1960’s color pallets. I am old enough to have been around when these first aired and even attended a Star Trek conventions at the now defunct New York Commodore Hotel as a really young press member. Also fortunate enough to have met Deforest Kelly and William Ware Theiss.

I'm a bit younger but do remember my dad taking me to a "trek convention" in the mid 70's in Jacksonville, FL. With the exception of a few episodes late in the third season, I love all the other episodes. The Menagerie has to be one of the best (stories) even though it shares footage from The Cage.

So many favorite episodes and one-liners!

I was old enough to remember seeing the original series aired in the 60's and followed it thru syndication reruns - I can still recite lines when watching to the dismay of my wife (when she can stand watching with me).

Many episodes still stand up.

My top 5 in no particular order:
Balance of Terror
Mirror Mirror
Amok Time
City on the Edge of Forever
tie: The Corbormite Maneuver / Conscience of the King

All of them.

My Dad used to watch the reruns and I would watch with him. We didn’t connect on much, but watching Star Trek was one of them.

I’ve got all 3 seasons on dvd. They’re the originals, no remastering. All the cgi stuff in the remasters just changes the “flavor” of them to me. Remastered stuff has its place, but I want to watch them the way they were when my Dad was still around. For memories sake as much as anything else. Like I said; it was one of the few things we connected on.

They’re in neat-o cases:

The cases are supposed to be shaped to look like tricorders and the colors are the 3 uniforms: command gold, science blue and engineering/security red.

I think Scotty was the only “non-disposable” red shirt on the show! Lol!

This “TOS” thing came out of nowhere for me, when people started saying it. I’ve always just known it as “Star Trek”.

The newer series and movies have their own names so this “TOS” just doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Seems unnecessary.

I know what it is and why, it just seems silly to me. Kinda of like a “texting” version. I can’t stand texting versions of things. It just seems….oh, I dunno, lets say….”lazy”.

Same as this “trekkie” vs “trecker” argument I often hear…I just don’t get why it even matters…

STOS is head-and-shoulders above any other ST iteration for me- tv or cinema.

Favorites:
What Are Little Girls Made Of?
The Corbomite Maneuver
Balance Of Terror
Tomorrow Is Yesterday
of course, Space Seed
Catspaw
The Ultimate Computer
The Tholian Web
Wink Of An Eye

I won't "binge watch" anything other that STOS- captivating.

As a kid totally into TOS as it was being released (and I was reading sci-fi as well) - I've often thought about and wondered if my ethical\moral base that I've carried throughout my life is partially due to TOS. I was certainly in some of my most formative years. We could now dive into what Roddenberry's intent was in this regard, and ya... he for sure had a definite vision of what he wanted these shows to be.
Holy cow, those are neat CD sets, in the communicator cases.

I bought TOS on VHS tape back in the early 90’s. Still have them, but would like the DVD format.

Gotta love the red uniforms on the yeoman…

I was afterschool babysat by TOS reruns in the early-mid 1970's.
I organized a cast screening in 2nd grade, appointing myself Spock.
My grandmother applied hand made insignia and rank stripes to an appropriately colored shirt.
My first crush was Janice Rand.
Whenever I see an oxidized penny, I take the opportunity to explain Spock's blood to anyone who will listen.

All that said, I absolutely LOVED TNG. Not at first, but about midway through the second season.
They got that right. The rest of them I love less and less as they go on.

...and "Forbidden Planet" 1956, with Leslie Nielson is absolutely part of where Roddenberry took influence.
I did not get to see that until the 00's!
