Star Treks worth avoiding......

"Star Trek, Enterprise"
Completely un-watchable x 2.

Probably old news to most, but as I say, I haven't watched TV series in a long time.
Initially I thought, "Wow, a Star Trek series I haven't seen", only to realize I did indeed try to watch this when new, and quickly bailed...never to return.

Three very big problems:
Even for it's day, a cheesy production.
Possibly the world's worst theme music.
Scott Bakula.

Actually, Scott Bakula is the biggest problem by far.
Dude should've faced a life-long acting ban after this series.

Star Trek fans at one time ranked the entire Star Trek canon, both movies and series, and "StarTrek, Enterprise" came in 12th.
I'm pretty sure that's close to the bottom of the barrel.

Most bizarre scene was releasing a slug [played by a real slug] on a desert planet because it would "be happier" there.
According to Wikipedia: "Slugs' bodies are made up mostly of water and, without a full-sized shell, their soft tissues are prone to desiccation. They must generate protective mucus to survive. Many species are most active just after rain because of the moist ground."
In short: desert creatures they are not.

Poor thing. Scott Bakula and his crew of idiots killed it [but in a heart warming way].

Killed it but in a heart warming way.... yes, that's what they do, over and over again. Isn't it interesting they chose a slug to encode the message... a slug, something 'nobody' likes, I don't, salt anyone. So it's a slug, let's kill it without feeling bad. Myself, I'd say it's a slug, get rid of it down there and let's get out of here, gives me the creeps... Scottie, a moment of warp then settle it down for a pleasant cruise.

I guess you didn't watch many of the episodes - couple years back we made an attempt to watch the ST:E Enterprise series - it was free on Amazon Prime, I think - Bakula was bad, agreed, but so were the writers!
OMG - The story-sequence with time-traveling Zindi aliens in Nazi uniforms urk !!!
(I wound up watching every 3rd or 4th episode at one point, they were so bad!).
And a later sequence with Khan's Space Seed descendents or something, they got "the actor who plays Data, and his twin brother, and his creator scientist" (Overused ham Brent Spiner) to play an overly bright and condescending scientists who bio-engineered them ...
and - they didn't even let the show end with dignity. Bakula and Blalock and the crew were not the focus of the final episode - they wrote the final episode as a finale for ALL the Star Trek shows that had gone after the original series - the final Enterprise episode was done as a holideck sequence or something trivial with Rikker and Diana Troi from ST:The Next Generation!

Yeah, I barely made it through one episode. And that was more than enough.
Ever since I've been fantasizing about how the show could be edited to include someone else in place of Bakula.
Too bad Rodney Dangerfield is dead.

Thanks for this thread. I will avoid all of it.
Scott Bakula was excellent in Men of a Certain Age a series that could have done with another season or two.

I very much enjoyed Enterprise, I have no problem with Bakula as the Captain. I would rank it right behind TOS. TNG is in last place because of Picard.

Janeway made a far better Captain than Picard.

*As for lame episodes, Spock’s Brain, anyone?

I too liked Enterprise, have the series.

How many seasons did that 2 broke girls last ? More than one ? How I met your mom is down there for me maybe because they're on now and I tried. That's all that comes to mind.

Quantum leap is on and I think it's watchable.

I HATED ST: Voyager - God! SO BAD!
I really wanted to like it - The first woman captain and all of that -
BUT they wrote her losing her ship early in the 2nd season - LAME!
ST: Deep Space 9 tried some interesting things - even if it was competing with Babylon 5

So - cut to Now -
ST: Discovery on CBS All Access (or Paramount Plus) is a funky thing -
all the things some claimed they hated in TNG - and even more Diversity!
and ... just watch ST: Picard - where he dies and becomes a replicant!
You have NO IDEA of how far the franchise has gone from Kirk!

i have no interest in ST:Disco or anything with Picard in it.

ST:Voyeur. Admit it, you found Janeway, sexy. There should have been an episode where she takes bad boy Tom into her quarters and has her way with him! :D

if anyone finds this offensive in any way, I am on vacation and have been drinking. :D

Actually, no - I did NOT find Janeway sexy ...
She'll always be Mrs Columbo to me ...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mrs._Columbo
Not sexy - Not for you!

And best to not be drinkin' online -
that way lies madness and Time outs!
;)

Wasn’t thrilled with Enterprise, but started watching it now because “it was there”. Missed a lot of them when first released because I lost interest (hmmmm… now that I think about it, I kinda stopped watching because I kept falling asleep - will have to try again).

I have never watched Columbo or any of its derivatives. There is not enough liquor to get past that character.
.
According to wikipedia - Mrs Columbia was a failed show that never included the Columbo character.

Possibly the world's worst theme music.

is it possible to agree more than 100% with something? Yikes that was awful.

Yes there were some pretty bad episodes, but there were some decent ones too. Don't ask me to name one, but you could probably put together a "greatest hits" compilation without any issue. The way they ended it though was pretty lame IMO.

The last ~2 minutes of the final episode you see that its a holodeck sim on the Enterprise-D by Will Riker and Deanna Troi (TNG) for some sort of inspiration on how to deal with whatever problem Riker is facing at the moment. It sort of implies the entire show was a big sim. Also the way they attempted to explain why Klingons looked like they did in TOS was strained at best.

The first time I watched DS9 was when it was current. I was 12 when that premiered and found it boring. I don't think I watched past the second season, and the only reason I did was because it came on immediately after TNG which I was a big fan of. I re-watched it a few years ago and there were some genuinely good episodes. Yeah there were some stinkers but they made a genuine effort at character development on this one. Also, Odo and Quark are probably the best supporting frenemies in any ST series.

Didn't watch Voyager when it was current. Thought it was lame too. I've since done a complete series watch. Yeah there were a lot of lame episodes, a few good ones, but overall "meh".

My beef with Discovery is what they did with the Klingons. It doesn't fit their appearance or character in any timeline. Also the fact that everything that seems to have happened ever is thanks to or because of one single character, which seems a little too lame.

My evil doppelganger from a parallel universe must be on the loose again.
I have no memory of starting this thread.

Alternate theory:
Some unknown person with unimaginable power is purposely messing with my head.

Could also be a certain cabal of raccoons.
I assure you, they're capable of almost anything.

Strange. I thought Enterprise was the best of the series. Followed by Voyager. The original is still great, but with all the technological improvements it has become almost a Buck Rodgers type show. Still, it is what started the Trek following and everything that came after. It deserves a lot of respect for that. IMHO
