Steely Dan 2013 Tour in USA

Great review Tapehead47, thanks. I never been to JiffyLube, Live or Oil Change wise. Damn the traffic, full speed ahead. I hope SD is as good on Friday as at your event. I'll let you know.
I had the date wrong, the concert was last nite at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater. Everything was right last nite, like the planets were aligned. Dropped my wife and daughter off at the airport for a vacation in Europe. Then treated to dinner by my friend Joe, along with Doug and Karen. Driven there in Doug's new BMW!

The venue has excellent acoustics and a great sound system. Plus the stage was stacked with the musicians equipment.

Our seats were 7th row just left of center-stage. Close enough to actually recognize faces! All the hours I've watch the Dan on Youtube helped.

This is my FB note from last nite after the concert:
There's no way to explain how great the Steely Dan concert came down tonite. It was the most musical, tight, professional, well-paced, enjoyable, mind-boggling one I can remember. Our seats were 7th row and we could actually see everything. John Herington stood right in front of our area, with Walter to his left. . The horn section just behind them. Donald was right of center-stage, the 3 singers to his right, drummer center and bass right near Donald. 13 musicians in all blending perfectly. Volume was just right, audience mostly a bunch of old fart enthusiasts like me. Every number played as you'd remember from the album. A few jazz riffs thrown in, and Becker did a couple of humorous shorts in a self-deprecating manner that was truly enjoyable. Tasteful, fulfilling, everything you'd want from America's greatest band right there in front of you! I actually had tears down my cheeks a few times it was so moving. Steely Dan explodes with musical talent like no other group nowdays.
They played, of what I can remember, Black Friday, Aja, Peg, Home at Last, Josie, Bodhisattva, Godwhacker, etc. Then for the encore Kid Charlemange. Played about 3 hours with no breaks. Just phenomenal.

Anybody, everybody, if you get a chance to see this band don't pass it up!!

Thanks, aa. You will surely enjoy the concert if it's even half as good as the Clearwater appearance.

What venue? Looking forward to your review.

That's what you missed in your comments. The discussion was not only about your experience but the upcoming appearances in particular this Friday's at the Jiffy Lube Pavilion in Gainesville, VA, where the roads always suck, the traffic pattern conducive to god-knows-what, and people like me coming in from the south may be forced to travel toward DC just to get the hell out of there.

That being said, I saw them there maybe six years ago or more and I'm going back! Section 101, Row V, seats 53-56. About $50 behind hjames! :thmbsp:

Now I see! Damn I really misread what you guys were talking about! When Finn said he's go except for the traffic I thought he was referring to Ruth Eckerd in Clearwater. Since I'd never been there I thought maybe it was sponsored by Jiffy Lube! Doh! Sorry for my stupidity.

Have a great time!

Well, we're Sec 102, Row R, Seats 18 & 19 ...
Local listening party friend Wilfredo and his lovely wife also have tickets for the show -
we're sharing a meal with them ahead of the show, then sharing a car and parking space at the venue!

Really psyched up for the show, too!
