stereo cabinet / racks etc

I'm a fan of open design racks such as those from Salamander, Target, Quadraspire, etc.. since this type of rack allows plenty of circulation around the components. These racks are also extremely sturdy and with the tiptoes allows the components to be isolated as much as possible from vibration and movement.

If you want a slightly cheaper solution, I also like and use the VTI Manufacturing racks, especially the BL series.

Another vote for Salamander. I use the Synergy racks for my 2-channel and HT systems, both with perforated steel doors, which help with ventilation and are transparent to IR signals. Perforated side panels are also available as an option.

As far as the flexibility of mass-market (Pioneer/Sansui/Kenwood/etc.) racks goes, I have a couple that I cross-braced in the back with 3/4 x 1/8 aluminum bar stock that were quite stiff afterwards. Drill and tap a few screw holes and the braces can also serve as a star ground.
 
I picked up an extremely nice Oak stereo rack at GW for 20 bucks. It is one of the one's which would have sold in the oak furniture stores for 7 or 8 hundred dollars. Really nice and in perfect shape. It has the top and two shelf spaces, as well as a really nice drawer and two doors at the bottom. I wiped it down with Teak oil and it is probably the nicest looking piece of wood furniture I've ever had. Good luck with your hunt.
 
Nice pictures, but I wish more people would post because I really don't know what I want. So if you aren’t afraid of others stealing your good ideas and maybe building on them please post!

BTW: Write designed furniture to go with many of the houses he designed and as you may have guessed his designs are extremely expensive, but I think the furniture designs were otherwise rather practical.
 
I picked up this Align. It wasn't cheap but is Amish made and very sturdy. 4 doors and removable vented rear panels. I use fans to keep the tube and server compartments cool.

I need a corner piece but I've given up on finding anything readymade. I'm going to design something and have someone local build it.

I had a huge corner piece with matching overhead shelves built for about $700. Make sure they put the corner piece on rollers too!
