Stereo Exchange in New York City is closing/moving:(

I went by last weekend and I surprised by the signs and there closing I feel bad about this but was told that
there moving, but I did pickup some Straight wire cables at a great price. I alway's like Stereo Exchange they
are one best High end store in New York.

I have not thought of them in years. Did they not have their store in The Village in the 70's?
I was driving on Northern Bvd a few days ago, and passed by Leonard's Catering Hall [in Great Neck]. Across from it used to be an audio store similar to Audio Exchange. Gone as well. Most of these type stores are gone. Remember Harvey's?

I believe the original store was on 17th street between 5th and 6th in the same building as Analogique the open reel tape machine repair place.
I too enjoyed the many times I wandered around the basement looking at the used stuff, and later at the back of the upstairs section.

I've bought several pieces of gear from them on ebay with phenomenal prices in the last two years. Great to work with. I bought:
Stax Class A pre amp
A pair of Monarchy Audio Sa-70 power amps
And the one I relish a Class A Plinius 100 Mark III. That one was advertised with scratches and got it for under 1500.00 Yeah the scratches were on the bottom of the unit.
Sad.

I didn't see anybody mention it but they're reopening at 627 Broadway.
I got a couple of emails. (maybe open now?)

Well the new location is open for appointments now, the grand opening is in 19 days. The space looks very nice in the photos I've seen, way more approchable and homey in an New York City kind of way. I'll be attending the opening day celebration.

Went to NYC as a kid once, had our car broken into and the stereo stolen while it was in underground parking at some Marriott hotel...lol That was the early - mid '80s. Had an Environmental project there - and another on Staten Island - in the mid '90s but never made it into the city again. I wish we had places like this shop round these parts.
I hope their new location serves them better toward possible expansion - lower overhead costs might translate into more room/expansion... at least that's what I'm hoping fore.. sounds like a cool shop.

I remember cars all had removeable radios and signs that said "NO Radio".
I also remember a story about a thief breaking into a car and leaving a note saying "next time leave radio"
Also the that BMW stood for break my window:idea:
