Sad, big name in racing when I was a kid...

One of my childhood idols when I was growing up. Quite a guy and quite a life.

I was dating a woman whose family were big NASCAR fans. When they would ask who my favorite driver was I would answer 'Stirling moss'! Got a lot of blank stares.

Yes he was, in 2000 - very well deserved in my opinion.

This shows the measure of the man.
'He famously lost out on the F1 title in 1958 to compatriot Mike Hawthorn after vouching for his rival and preventing him being disqualified when he was accused of reversing on track in the late-season Portuguese Grand Prix'.

He was four times a runner up in the F1 Championship, never managing to win it.
