It is getting tough to see icons from your childhood pass. I was/am a Colts fan and first started watching football when QB's like Johnny Unitas and Bart Starr were near their prime. Starr didn't have Unitas' talent but he knew how to win. A great guy by all accounts.
Football will never be the same.
I grew up in Milwaukee watching Starr play and I work with a guy who was at the Ice Bowl. Starr's legacy is immense as his ability on the field and actions off as a human being are legendary. My brother posted his on FB yesterday...

My dad would take me to Memorial Stadium for Colts games when I was a kid. Saw Bart Starr, Hornung, Jim Taylor & the rest of the Packers play there a few times. RIP Mr. Starr.
It was while my Dad was stationed at Fort Hollabird (sp?) in Baltimore in 65-66 that I became a lifelong O’s and Colts fan. It was great being a fan of those teams in the late 60’s-Mid 70’s. It has been a bit tougher since then.....

Bart Starr will be sadly missed. A true gentleman and the greatest quarterback in my book! A Packers legend! RIP
I was lucky enough to grow up in Wisc. and he was my quarterback.

They were talking about him this morning on sports talk because he was a local hero here in Alabama. The main guy on the show recounted a story from 2yrs ago where Mr. Star was there for an interview. A week or so passed and he received a hand written letter from Barr Star, thanking him for having him on his show. Pure class, they don’t make them like that anymore.
