strange aiwa AP-2600 turntable

I have owned my AP2600 from new, I was about 18 when I purchased it. I think I paid about AUD$370 - $400 for it. The unit was sold with the Shure M95ED cartridge and later changed to a Ortofon OM10 in the late 80's. Over the years it has given me no problems whats so ever, built like a tank, but... personally it lacks in sound quality, compared to my LP12 and Rega P2, it sounds very standard. Has anyone had the pleasure in replacing the arm, I was thinking of using either a SME or a RB700. That is if the arms can be modified to fit?

Also I have misplaced the original owners manual for the AP-2600 would anyone like sell there copy or make a copy???

Cheers,
Rob

sadly i didn't keep the aiwa long enough to tweak it as it was bought for a clse friend who needed a turntable..but it sounded pretty good to my ears with an ortofon vms5e cartridge..
the arm is peculiar especially the suspension at the pivot...it seems to behave almost like a unipivot..and perhaps is a limitation...but the rest of the turntable is built like a battle ship..
i would love to find another one and perhaps modify it to accept a rega or linn arm..:scratch2:
