I got a good amount of infinity speakers, including a ren80.
The renaissance series, I am second owner got original boxes the works. I want to say first, I have by now a couple speakers with emims.
Good drivers ! But to say I prefer them over the polygraph or dome or cones infinity has been producing in those years. Not so much, the issue I take with emim/ h-emim drivers they lack dynamic capabilities a dome or cone has. To me it tend to get thin on some of those more to my ear important, mid range frequencies.
They are revealing, more so than any dome/cone. However they are not more musical in my ears at all. The r90 for example got it right with the cone. It adds more body to the mid range. It's a bit warmer and pleasant. However the h emim in them tend to really reach limitations on higher volumes. Sometimes edging towards harshness.
And no amplification is most certainly not a issue. It's a inherent sound I also tend to get back from my rs1b. Although those are bit more tempered and more adjustable and dipole.
The biggest conundrum I feel with those speakers? Monopole, why on earth use drivers that shine being dipole as a monopole.
Cary christie clearly didn't follow nudells footsteps doing that. I think they would have have a better more airiness to them of they did. Still love them for what they are, they cannot play everything you throw at it. But once in while I do pull them out , it's a beautiful speaker to look at too .
