Suggest "Larger" Bookshelf Speakers...

The answer to this question is of course the lowly Speakerlab 1. Very good sound with the Philips tweeter.

If you want something smaller you could get some Celestion Ditton 110s and gut them and then use drivers and crossovers of your choice. I did this and got a great pair of speakers. The woofers are Peerless and the tweeters are Goldwood "Philips copy" tweeters.

Here's my Baby Advent IIs with Dayton aluminum cone woofers and ADS/Braun silk dome tweets. They produce a stunningly large sound stage, and remarkable bass. I retained the stock Advent cross-over, which is far less than optimal, but even so, they revival my L710s for clarity and resolution. Someday, I'll tweak the x-overs.

Regarding ADS, none of my drivers have the Ferrofluid cooling. My L710s and L520 series II speakers pre-date the ferrofluid. It was just the luck of the draw.

Big El

I'm delighted that you have my love for the Baby Advent II. I honestly think they are brilliant speakers. They don't sound at all the way they look (80s... chincy... small) I was recently pumping Mahler's 2nd Symphony (with the sub) and just astounded at how well they cruised through all those dense sonics with grace.

I plan to rock out to the Dynacos for a while - but I'm keeping my eyes open for ADS if I can get a pair cheap to try out.
