Suggestion...

A place where technically trained folks can look for technical answers.
Perhaps the answer lies in more or better "technical training", and not looking for answers in a hobbyist forum?

I would think that the expertise levels of our members ranges from folks with no formal technical training right on up to some who actually have their Engineering Doctorates (EngD). And let me tell you, I have witnessed that the ability line between the two is often more blurred than you may think. :)

This is a Wonderful place! Why ruin it? It's not perfect. Great place to meet people. It also has a fantastic search engine. Yes, a little knowledge is dangerous but most know not to over do their skills. We take the good with the bad. Enough Said!

I would like to make a suggestion. Create a forum for, "techs" only. A place where technically trained folks can look for technical answers. I understand that under the different, "brand" forum there are a lot of technical folks posting but there are also a lot of weekend warriors using this forum and their receiver to become a, "technician".

It would really be helpful to separate the wheat from the chaff. To get info from folks who have, ACTUALLY EXPERIENCED specific issues. I'm not demeaning folks who have decided to fix their own gear; I'm saluting them! And I hope they learn and share. The issue is, currently, this board isn't formatted to separate experienced technicians for weekend warriors.

Thanks for hearing me out!

Brian
AK is doing "fine" just the way it's set up ... the mix of (your term) weekend warriors and (again, your term) techs has worked out very well, effectively even, for two decades. While it might be but a hunch on my part, I think most of us would rather it stay "fine".
