Summer of Love 40th Anniversary this Weekend S.F.

Around 1971 a hardcore group of hippies( no ouegie boards or flakes allowed) left S.F. for the hills of Tennesee. Started out with 250 on school buses ended up 2000 strong on 1700 acres building our own roads houses Fm stations print shops you name it. I lived there for a few years late teens. What a trip. For real. Oh ya great pics!

forgot to ask, which bands did you see?

lol...the ones I remember seeing/hearing were:
Moby Grape
New Riders of the Purple Sage
Country Joe McDonald
Brian Auger
The Charlatans
Jefferson Airplane
The Doors
Jerry Miller Band (from Moby Grape) featuring Tiran Porter (from the Doobie Brothers), Dale Ockerman (from the Doobie Brothers) and John (Fuzzy) Oxendine (from the Sons of Champlin)

The rest of it was a blur, especially when we were way in the back. It wasn't as loud so I was paying more attention to other things. :D All the bands played really short sets.

Even up front it was total sensory overload. Last time we squeezed up to the front Jefferson Airplane played "Somebody to Love." That got everyone rocking!

I was there in 1967! I was stationed at NAS Alameda, and we short-haired sailors with a long-hair heart gravitated towards Golden Gate Park and Berkley every chance we got. We looked so corny wearing beads and tie-dyed t-shirts and trying to fit in. It was hard to meet girls, but somehow we managed.

Went to concerts at the Fillmore West and the Avalon Ball Room.

Just revisited San Francisco in late May. What a beautiful city. Went to a blues fest at GG park for a while. I think I saw an old girlfriend selling souvenir crack pipes froma suitcase (joke).

Fabulous pix, onepixel. I saved all of them on my c drive. Great screen savers! Smoke any banana peels?

I'm glad you all enjoyed the photos. I'm looking forward to the 50th!

And no I did not smoke any banana peels. But after eating that cookie I danced like one.

Carl

Looks like a very enjoyable day was had by all. It's great when an event as large as that can go off without a bunch of assholes causing trouble. Thanks for the pics Carl. Now I'm going to go listen to some Mamas and Papas.:smoke:

Those 'Gonja' cookies?

Perhaps that person was selling Salvia cookies.:scratch2: Salvia is a plant grown in Mexico that if smoked turns your closed eyelids into a personal psychedellic movie theater for several minutes :yippy:and then sets you back down like nothing ever happened.:smlove: Evidently the leaves can be chewed or eaten for a longer but more subtle effect from what I have read. Its legal (for now) in the U.S. Look it up..:beatnik:

I have tried to keep it low key as far as spreading the word on this stuff. Reason being that if it bacame a big deal "Sam" would certainly "step on the grass" if ya know what I mean.:pistols: Well last I heard the "MAN?" is taking steps to make you a criminal for using or posessing yet another God given, 100% natural, herb.:whip:

So anyone interested in herbal medicine or Lucy in the Skies in Diamonds run out to your local smoke shop and grab a sac or 10 before Sam makes you a criminal. I figure this 40th deserves a "toast" :beerchug:(if you will). Find a close friend and a chair!:D:lmao:

I was stationed in Berkeley, too, in '65-'67. Wasn't in the service, though.:D An old Gfriend mailed me a heads-up on the celebration. Unfortunately couldn't attend. I will be there for the Fiftieth.:yes:
That was quite a musical lineup. Pretty much covered the times. Thanks for the pics and impressions. Was Country Joe in attendance? I've got a connection with that guy.

Not to hijack but I wonder if they'll be doing a 40th anniversary Woodstock? Anybody hear any rumours? I could go to that one, not very far to drive. I'd love to go to that.

I did a quick search and it looks like it may/most likely happen!

Yeah...baby! Time to start planning for a field trip!
