Sunday Night FM

I don't know why FM programming goes downhill in terms of content on Sunday nights. At least that's my impression of my favorite four FM stations in Los Angeles....except as I write this the local left wing station is going to play Patti Smith's Horses:yes:....actually my left wing station is providing some very entertaining ethereal sounds tonight:)

Please refrain from "Left Wing" "Right Wing" comments. I'm sure that is enough for some people to turn this into a political discussing, which will not be allowed in this forum.

Around here there seems to be pretty good programing on Sunday night. Some live and acoustic stuff. Local NPR replays American Roots and World Cafe on Sunday nights.

On Sunday nights I try to tune into a Seattle station at 9:00
for "Hearts of space" a syndicated Ambient program that Im
sure is aired in L.A.,I beleive to locate a station near you
that is broadcasting check HOS.com.
Usually before HOS the program "Echoes" plays for an hour
on the same station that can be worth catching also !?!

Actually Hearts of Space is no longer available in Los Angeles. Used to be on KUSC but they decided it didn't fit in their classical programming. I really miss it, although KXLU from Loyola Marymount has Alien Air which is as good and sometimes better for the electronic music.

I know this isn't FM related, but Soma.fm has a neat ambient space sounds channel--along with some other cool "out there" stuff.

Little Steven's Underground Garage is on Sunday evenings. I love it.

http://www.littlesteven.com/affiliates.html for affiliated stations.

Compared to when I was in high school, though, one show is pretty slim pickin's. Sunday used to be the best night of the week, and it was tough to pick from American Top 40, Dr. Demento, or the King Biscuit Flour Hour. Ah, the good old days!

Little Steven used to featured here in Los Angeles:tears:... Dr Demento ages ago.:sigh:

Thanks for the reminder that KXLU is a little futher down the dial:thmbsp:. Is Stella still there?

Sunday's a weird radio night in Austin too...it's a lot of World music on KUT and KGSR, and our local "New-Rock" station picks up a pop-punk show out of LA (kind of fun to be able to bounce back and forth btwn some afro-beat tune and Pennywise)

He merely stated the the bent of the respective stations, which hardly mandates such a stern admonition....:scratch2:

I've changed my mind about Sunday nights on FM. Very enjoyable programming on KCRW and KPFK here in Los Angeles. Very diverse and high quality musical content. Thanks to Ovenmaster for the heads up on the Little Steven Show on 95.5. Now my only complaint is overlapping scheduling:)

bay area sunday nite

KPFA in Berkeley, CA on the air since the 40's & if I recall the first listener supported FM station in the country has a number of good shows which can be listened to online. kpfa.org KPFA is a part of the Pacifica Foundation which has sister stations in NY, Texas.. They had a tower bombed in TX one time if I recall. Sat noon is great for a blues show put on by the man who has been doing the S.F blues fest for the last 35 plus years so you know that show is cookin. Followed by a good Jazz program.
On to sunday nite.. 9p pacific time is a must listen favorite of mine. I use this program Tales from the Dark Side to record for an hour to keep the Nak limber.
A radio drama put on by Joe Frank of which sometimes you just cant tell if they are actors (as he does use actors as well) or is it a recording of an actual event
At 10p followed by Dean Suzuki with the avant garde.. for lack of a better genre description. Hearts of Space at 10p & 11p (pacific time) on KALW 91.7 Available online as well. Many more stations with great programs although FM has been depleted here as well. :music::beatnik:

used to dig it when Henry Kaiser and Charles Amerkaninan did shows of pfa in the 80's. now just listen to kfjc which still occassionally has some kick A prgs like the Mayhem specials (today is 24 hrs of Zappa)
